. . . I definitely think the whole 'Amon Sul'/blades of Westernesse thing is a
major factor, more so than the 'fear of fire' mentioned by Strider. We
must surely conclude that the Wraiths are surprised by the resistance they
encounter, and that they must previously have been aware of Strider's
prowess.
(Don't you love writing about the earlier chapters? 'Strider' is so much
easier to type than 'Aragorn' . . . )
