Or was it "dryad"? No, they are spirits of trees, right? I see her
as being nymph-like, though this part of the story, as Curious has pointed out,
seems not to be with faerie as such. To me she seems like an inbetween
person, much like Tom Bombadil. You don't hear of any other River
Daughters, or even the spirits of rivers. I did just see "Spirited Away"
by Miyazake (or some such spelling) and I don't want to give anything away, but
there was a river spirit in it, personified. What a wonderful
concept!!
