...that my computer went down yesterday just as I was trying to be the first to
reply to this post. I haven't read the responses below yet, but what I
was GOING to say is that the use of the Ring to dominate others is the ultimate
evil. And deliberate use of the Ring (as opposed to invisibility, which I
think is a side effect) would certainly alert Sauron.
Galadriel lays out a very unattractive picture of what
Frodo would have to do to use the true power of the Ring. I do not see
Frodo doing this, nor do I imagine that he would try. In Mordor, when
Gollum is harshly threatened, I believe it is the Ring itself speaking (Frodo
being so far gone that the ring can override him at this point).
I strongly feel that, aside from all of the above, for
Frodo to use the Ring to dominate would blow the moral center out of the
book. Flee such notions.
Now I will see how many people below have agreed with me.
