I hadn't thought about Frodo's use of the Ring so early - on the slopes of
Mount Doom certainly, but not so much at the Taming of Smeagol.
But it all makes sense. And the correlation between Galadriel's warning
and Frodo's use makes Frodo's journey that much more bittersweet. No
wonder he never expected to return to the Shire, no matter what the outcome of
his endeavour would
be.
