Perhaps not a good sign. I agree that Frodo does show much mercy and
kindness to Gollum on several occasions -- but when you say Frodo doesn't
"dominate" Gollum, I think you're departing radically from what's actually in
the text (cited in my post above, responding directly to Mallorn-WS).
Also, Tolkien himself in his brief summary for what would happen between Gollum
and Frodo does expressly speak of Frodo's "use of the Ring" and the harm which
that did to Frodo thenceforward.
