.... NZ Strider has come through! This was a question that my hub and I
asked as we read the book to one another (for instance, I wondered why
Aragorn/Gandalf didn't use them in the attack on the black gates--they were
already dead, and so couldn't be killed, could they? And they inspired
great fear...). Curious addresses this below, and I think that's the main
reason we came up w/ (not everyone would be as brave as the dunedan and their
friends, fighting alongside these dead). But NZ Strider gives us another
reason, which adds to the consistency of Aragorn, and his "kingliness".
Good question and discussion!
BTW, my hun just bought me Chris Tolkien's War of the Ring part 1, and we were
reading that last night. FASCINATING, for instance, to learn that Denathor was
much nicer originally, and the ents helped out in the final battle (before
revision). What GREAT fodder for discussion! We stayed up way toooo
late last night
talking!
