Regarding the question, c'n't, the key is the word "fate". Fate doesn't mean life-force - one person's fate may indeed involve life or death, but then again it may not. It's about the direction that a person's life takes, and that direction may or may not be directly related to a person living or dying. But good call on your child's part.
