I don't think Ancalagon the Balck was at the fall of Gondolin. Actually,
Ancalagon didn't do very much at all so I've never been quite sure why Gandalf
made such a big deal of him. Ancalagon emerged right before the sack of
Angband on his very first sortie -- just in time to be nailed by Earendil the
Mariner on Vingelot. The next thing Ancalagon did was to crash into
Thangorodrim and break it...
B. I'm adding your note.
C. Believe it or not, I more or less agree with this
utterly unsupported theory. Does that make it supported?
D. I've often wondered how a "drake" got to be a male
duck. The feminine as the general term, by the way, is not all that
uncommon -- I've often wondered that radical feminists don't make more of pairs
like "duck:drake"; "goose:gander"; "cat:tomcat"; "cow:bull"; etc.
E. I quite
agree.

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
