To follow up on this, what colours didn't he like?
Message:

LotR is full of colourful accessories: White/silver/blue seems to be associated with sacred and noble things (Varda, Manwe, Galdalf etc). Gold is associated with power (and wealth, obviously). Green and yellow are popular also, the hobbits like these colours, green is the predominant colour in Rohirrim designs and Tom Bombadil dresses in green/yellow/blue.

Are there any generally negative colours? I suppose red isn't used very often. The banners of Harad were red, but I can't think of anything else, except the stone of Narya, and that was more like a flame perhaps.

Purple is mostly absent too, I think? Of course it doesn't go at all well with Elrond's complexion...
