Various colors, including grey, can be found among most breeds although some
breed associations restrict the colors of the horses registered with them.
Anyway, a solid grey horse with no dapples is indeed rare. Even a gray horse
with dapples isn't as common as you'd think. They usually turn white (still
called grey as Draupne said) with tiny spots covering their bodies (referred to
as "flea-bitten") as they age. Roans tend to look grey but are actually a mix
of gray, black and white hairs across the body. There's a whole color/gene
theory out there that I'm new to and so am no authority, but I've been in the
horse world enough to know a
bit.
