UT:  The Gladden Fields;  Summary

This curious little chapter tells us nothing in particular that we needed to know, but quite a number of things that it are nice to know (like the fact that the origional Elendilmir was recovered from Orthanc), and a number of things are are remarkably trivial to know (like the dimensions of a Numenorean short sword).  It seems to more a matter of a hobbyist 'filling up the gaps' for his own edification rather than than a teller of 'Fairy Tales' communicating 'Myth.'  It also seems to follow a trend of the later Tolkien to show an astonishing willingness to rewrite things that had long been 'set' (astonishing in an author that had once been willing to go to great lengths to explain errors rather than correct them).  Were Tolkien's interests changing?  Was he just forgetting things he had put down decades before?  Did I forget this was a summary, and not another question for discussion?  The world awaits your answer.
