I'm sorry if I can't add a lengthy post here.

But I have met several people who think C Tolkien used his fathers work to achive fame and fortune, but only for fame&fortune, not because of his fathers wishes.

I don't agree with them, but thats another question though.

If I remember correctly however, C Tolkien drew some of the maps of Middle-Earth by request of his father. I think it was something like that. I'm not sure if J Tolkien made a death-bed request, asking C Tolkien to finish his work...but it is clear that C Tolkien loved his father and his work.
