I didn't get into LOTR until ROTK was out, because I just couldn't get into a
movie that extended for 24 months before you could find out what
happened. Not knowing where it was going, I didn't appreciate the long
road. Also, the cultures and characters were very confusing--my IQ is
pretty darn high, but I couldn't handle all the weird-sounding names or keep
track of who/what/where etc. The extended editions of FOTR and TTT were
given to me by a friend. Until that, I had no real interest in seeing ROTK, let
alone reading the
stories.
