WellingMoot pictures
Message:

Hoping that you are not already sick of hearing about WellingMoot, I'll post a few pictures here, and trust that other WellingMooters (with digital cameras, or better scanners) can post a few more.  Sadly, RL prevents me from taking the time to write a detailed report, but I am sure one will be forthcoming from another Mooter in the near future *hint, hint*.

I don't have any pics of our Friday Fiesta -- I was too over excited to even remember my camera.  My photos begin on Satuday morning...

Sporting our styley WellingMoot T-shirts (designed by Choice of Luthien and Leggylass)
From L to R: Kerewyn, Ataahua, Choice of Luthien, Estelwyn, Tehanu

Fernside Estate (Gladden fields and Lothlorien site)

Fernside Estate - bridge was "dressed" with arches etc for Lothlorien scenes and Galadriel was filmed standing on it

Hiking up a side canyon at Putangirua Pinnacles (PotD site).
From L to R: Kerewyn, Milk, Choice of Luthien

This was taken at the highest point on our PotD hike - we turned around here as the canyon got so narrow and steep that we weren't sure we'd be able to get down again if we went any further.

Others had great shots of the Pinnacles - I'm hoping they'll post some for you :-)

In the Weta conference room. This is Kimi's photo of us (hope you don't mind, K) Richard Taylor wasn't in mine :-(.
From L to R:
standing -- Mr Kimi, Kimi, Ataahua, Leggylass, Richard, Delyth, Milk, Smokering
sitting/kneeling -- Estelwyn, Daniel, Choice of Luthien, Kerewyn
not present -- Tehanu, Mr Tehanu

Estelwyn and Kimi holding the golden statues.  They weren't labelled and I asked Daniel why.  He said that the Oscars came with little plaques saying who and what they were for, but Richard had chosen not to attach them as he felt the awards belonged to everyone at Weta, not just to him.  :-)
BTW, I have no idea what is in that cabinet in the background -- anyone remember?

Estewlyn with Narsil replica.  In the background -- various Elven weapons to the L, various Rohirric swords to the R.

Daniel Falconer and Flat Frodo with the Cave Troll.  Various Gondorian swords in the background.

Other Mooters have great pics of the swords and helms, that I hope you will get to see.

[warm-fuzzy alert]

Since I probably won't get to write a full report I'll take this opportunity to say an enoromous thankyou to the sibs who made this such an amazing weekend.  I had the idea for this gathering pre-ORC and WellingMoot surpassed even my wildest dreams.  We got to do and see some incredible stuff thanks to the personal connections of a few sibs, and their persistence in liaising with key people.  Others contributed time and ideas and enthusiasm.  Thankyou all for making this happen.

Apart from the actual "activities" I can't say enough about how wonderfully, marvellous (ack, superlatives fail me) it was to meet you all.  Some I had met briefly before, and it was a treat to spend more time and get to know you better.  Some I hadn't met and was pleasantly surprised at how well we connected.  I had some great conversations with Tehanu on that long drive to and from the Pinnacles, and with Ataahua coming and going from our hotel.  I hope to see you both again before too long :-).  Another treat was being able to be a kid again with some of the younger sibs!  I am so impressed with you all, and wish there were more young folk of your calibre in the world!

This was my first Moot and what a joy it was being able to talk Tolkien and LOTR with other people who got it: even if we were talking about other stuff it was so nice having that as a common reference point.  I really do hope we can do it again sometime - and let's make sure NZ_Strider and Roheryn can join our next Kiwi Moot.
