I met this cat on the remains of a "milecastle" of Hadrian's Wall, built across England (roughly Newcastle to Carlisle) in 124 AD. My friend and I hiked ~70 miles of its length in 2002. I often think the late 3rd Age residents of Middle Earth must have looked on the ruined works from the "glory years" of the Numenorians much as residents of Saxon England looked on the abandoned buildings of the Romans, with bewilderment and awe.
