Richard Taylor Talks More On "Hobbit", "LOTR" Blu-ray

Although actors like Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood, not to
mention writer-director Peter Jackson and producer Fran Walsh are often
credited with the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the real folks
responsible for bringing them to life are the crew members behind the
scenes, led by Weta workshop president Richard Taylor. Since the beginning
of the film series, Taylor has provided vital, insightful information about
the making of the films, and helped flesh out their journey from page to
screen.

TORN Chats with Richard Taylor

To promote the release of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Blu-ray DVD
Richard Taylor dropped us a line to talk all things 'Rings'. Richard is hard
at work on production of The Hobbit, and during the chat we spoke a bit
about blu-ray and 3D technology effecting the way the folks at his WETA
Workshop go about creating sets and props.

Lord of the Rings fans rescued off Mt Doom

A Dutch Lord of the Rings enthusiast and her two Kiwi mates didn't stick to
the script and had to be rescued off the slopes of Mount Doom after setting
out ill equipped and too late in the day. Six search and rescue teams were
sent up Mt Ngauruhoe after the alarm was raised at a cost of $10,000. Ryan
Hattle, Sam MacDonald and Violet Onderwater met on couchsurfing.com, a
website where people offer up their couches to travelers for free. On
Saturday the team set off on their quest.

'Lord of the Rings' Blu-ray review

When "Fellowship of the Ring," was first released on DVD and VHS (no
seriously, VHS!) back in 2001, it changed the way many people watched movies
at home. It was one of the films that convinced legions to finally jump into
the digital age and buy a first DVD player. It was a converting tool to the
masses who didn't previously care enough about fidelity of sound and picture
on the small screen to make the financial commitment to change.

More ROTOP footage

Linuxelf continues to load up the YouTube library of yesteryear. Heading up
today's entries is fun New Zealand television coverage from our own "Return
of the One Party". They (channel 3) call it the "Three Ring Party" and later
refer to it as New Line's party, never quite catching on that it was a fan
organized gathering. But they did talk to site friend and expert costumer
Judy (look for the beard) and reported from our stage while Emerald Rose is
playing.

Guillermo chimes in with MGM / Hobbit delays

TheOneRing.net message board member (and director of films that win like -
you know - Academy Awards) Guillermo del Toro chimed in today to elaborate a
bit on the seemingly eternal pre-pre-production state of a pair of "Hobbit"
films and the MGM situation.

"The race of the dwarves comes to the forefront." says Richard Taylor about
The Hobbit

The guys over at MTV caught up with the incredibly talented and extremely
busy co-founder and director of WETA, the Oscar Award winning Richard
Taylor, right after he got off "a big meeting about how to make the new
designs of armor for the new film" no less. Taylor shared a deal of
information regarding the early pre-production that's been going on in New
Zealand while the rest of the world is anticipating the long-awaited green
light for the two Hobbit films.

the release this week of the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the first time on
Blu-ray, Warner Bros. offered TheOneRing.net the chance to speak to with
Richard Taylor, head of Weta Workshops. Taylor and partner Tania Rodger famously
built the New Zealand special effects house first from their Wellington, New
Zealand flat in 1987 and expanded it dramatically in 1994 when bringing in
Peter Jackson. Since then it has grown into one of the elite special effects
houses in the world, producing the wonders seen in films like the LOTR trilogy,
King Kong, and Avatar, just to name a very few, and all of this across the
ocean from the U.S. Film Industry, building what director Guillermo del Toro
called, “Hollywood the way God intended it.”

Investors
want to give MGM $500 million to start making new productions according to
Nikki Finke at Deadline.com. Relativity Media, backed by a hedge fund, must see
the profit potential in projects and properties like “The Hobbit”
and further James Bond films. The report says this offer was made three weeks
ago which means they probably weren’t following TORn’s advice, but

happen.
