New Empire Hobbit Cover
>From Empire Magazine: January is, statistically speaking, the most miserable
of months. It’s cold, it’s dark, and Moira Stuart is forever banging on
about paying your tax bill by the 31st, or Mr. Taxman will be round to cut
off a pound, or three, of flesh. So here at Empire, we feel it’s our duty to
cheer you up – and what better way than by presenting to you our brand new
issue, which should be hitting newsagent and supermarket shelves near you
any
 second
 now.

PARK CITY, UT. - Dominic Monaghan while promoting his Slamdance Film
Festival opening feature, “I Sell The Dead,” told TheOneRing.net that he
would be interested in being involved in “The Hobbit” films if it made sense
creatively. When asked if he would want to hang around New Zealand in 2010
he said, “That is a Peter Jackson question. I would love to. I would be
available. I would do anything for Peter and I would do anything for
Guillermo. Of course there is the writing challenge.”

Previously Unseen Edoras Construction Pics!
Andrew Rutherford writes: Here’s some photos that you might not have seen
before, and recently uploaded to our website. They show the construction of
the Edoras set. They were not taken by us. From the site: When Peter
Jackson’s Three Foot Six company first arrived in Queenstown in November
1999, I decided to visit their production office which was operating out of
the old Remarkables Hotel. There I had the good luck to meet unit production
manager Nick Korda. I told him that with the type of aeroplanes we operated
I thought we could be of service.

Andy Serkis on Tintin and The Hobbit
ComingSoon.net talked to Andy Serkis, who stars in the January 23
fantasy-adventure Inkheart, about returning to performance capture in Steven
Spielberg’s Tintin, Peter Jackson’s Tintin 2, and The Hobbit. “We are
starting ‘Tintin’ the week after next,” Serkis said. “Peter Jackson is
producing and Steven Spielberg is directing. I remember reading them as a
child. I wasn’t this massive fan. I loved the almost storyboard nature of
the beautiful, beautiful drawings. And the way its going to be done
 It’s
obviously performance capture so it’s is going to be perfect. There isn’t a
more perfect way of doing it.”

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
