Garfeimao writes: With the opening of The WETA Cave, it was decided that a
slight alteration of the Wellington day trip on the Cruise to Middle-earth
should now include this intriguing shop. So, there will soon be a new
itinerary posted for the land portion of the Hobbit and Wizard packages to
reflect this change in Wellington. Just know that if you are thinking of
going on the Cruise to Middle-earth, you will get to see The Cave.

The axe drops on New Line
>From Variety.com: It’s the end of the line for most of New Line, with Time
Warner cutting 450 jobs as part of its earlier decision to fold the studio
into Warner Bros. The pink slips, announced Monday afternoon, leave New Line
with 40-50 employees. A Time Warner spokesman said about 40 New Line
employees are being offered jobs within Warner Bros.

Weta Conceptualizing Dwarves for the Hobbit?
After more digging, message board member Compa Mighty found the transcript
of a recent chat in which Gino Acevedo, Sr. Prosthetics Supervisor and
Visual Creature Effects Art Director at Weta Workshop, reports that he’s
looking forward to working on Smaug and the spiders in The Hobbit and is
already trying to come up with ideas for the Dwarves.

“The Lord of the Rings” a top favorite book in the U.S.
Reuters Life! reports: When it comes to literary pursuits in the United
States most people agree on at least one thing — the most popular book is
the Bible, according to a new survey. It came in first in a Harris Poll of
nearly 2,513 adults but the second choice in the survey was not as clear
cut.

The bitter end of the New Line
Last May, New Line Cinema threw a 40th-anniversary party in Cannes. Tied in
with a promotional push for the company’s movie, The Golden Compass, it was
a lavish affair. As guests consumed champagne, while admiring the ice
sculptures, little did they guess this was more a last hurrah than a
birthday bash. For within the last month it has been announced that New Line
Cinema is to be drastically downsized and folded into the conglomerate’s
studio outfit, Warner Brothers.

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
