Orlando Bloom Iffy On ‘Hobbit’ Role Unless Peter Jackson Returns
Orlando Bloom seems to be shying away from playing the great elf Legolas in
“The Hobbit,” that is unless his original “Lord of the Rings” helmer is
behind the camera. “Who’s directing it, Peter Jackson?” he mockingly
answered when asked about the possibility. Yes, we know that Legolas isn’t
technically in “The Hobbit,” and to his eternal credit, Bloom knows this as
well. But dedicated “Rings” fans know that Legolas is an elf from the realm
of Mirkwood, a kingdom Bilbo Baggins and his dwarf companions get captured
in towards the end of “The Hobbit,” imprisoned there by the Elvenking
Thranduil.

London LOTR Musical Review & Images!
Mark writes: Last night I went to see The Lord of the Rings Musical in
London at the Theatre Royal and thought I'd share with you a quick review: I
must admit, I was very skeptical that something like The Lord of the Rings
could be adapted as a musical and fit into a 3 hour stage show and after
hearing poor reviews about the Toronto show I was reluctant to spend £50 on
a ticket.

The Two Beards Unite: Jackson and Spielberg to Direct 'Tintin' Films!
>From The Hollywood Reporter: A week after DreamWorks picked up Peter
Jackson's "Lovely Bones," Steven Spielberg and Jackson are teaming up again,
this time to bring Spielberg's long-gestating pet project "Tintin" to the
big screen. Sources said Monday that Jackson and Spielberg would each direct
installments of the franchise, which is based on a series of Belgian comic
books called "The Adventures of Tintin" by Herge. It is unclear whether
other filmmakers would be involved, and no script has been written. The
movies would be made using motion-capture technology. In the comics, Tintin
is a young Belgian reporter and world traveler who is aided in his
adventures by his faithful dog Snowy. He later was joined by such colorful
characters as Captain Haddock, Professor Cuthbert Calculus and bumbling
detectives Thomson and Thompson. The books, hugely popular in Europe, have
been translated into 50 languages, with more than 200 million sold.

Rumors, news and sources
MrCere here with a response to a lot of e-mail regarding a scuttle going on
about 'The Hobbit' movie. Our friends at AICN.com have been running some
rumors about possible directors for the film such as Peter Weir, Stephen
Summers and Michael Bay. Even AICN says to take this untested source with a
grain of salt and that just isn't credible enough in my opinion. My
journalism background informs me that I need two independent sources for a
credible story if they are going to go unnamed. That rule gets stretched and
bent wildly on the internet but there just isn't enough here for us to run
with the story. However, 'thank you' to all the folks who care enough to
send in news and tips, your help is highly valued, even if we can't reply or
the tip doesn't make it. As always contact the news team via e-mail at
Spymaster at TheOneRing.net. (And remember, it's an all volunteer staff!)

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
