Children of Hurin: Signed, sealed and waiting for you!
It will be an important and historical day in Tolkien history when the new
book, "The Children of Hurin" goes on sale. It will be even more significant
for a few hundred people who manage to snag a copy signed by Christopher
Tolkien and illustrator Alan Lee! At the Manhattan's Barnes & Noble (555
Fifth Ave., between 45th & 46th streets) fans will start lining up at 8 a.m.
to get one of the rarest of rare, highly coveted copies. TheOneRing.net will
be on hand to distribute edible breakfast stuff to keep fans alive until the
book goes on sale at noon. Better yet, the first 500 fans in line will get a
great (and we mean great) prize from Sideshow Collectibles!

Has it Been That Long?!
TORN Staffer Altaira writes: I thought you all might want to reminisce a
little. One of the message board members pointed out that it was eight years
ago today that TORn posted it's first news stories on the Home page. She
also included a few of those first stories, and a pic of the original staff
(see how young you all look? ;-P). If you haven't signed up for the boards
yet, what are you waiting for? Click on the "Sign me up!" link in the lower
left.

Following last year's successful The People's Guide to J.R.R. Tolkien, this

explore the words and worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien through essays, Q&A from
readers, and interviews with special guests.

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
