>From Sideshow to Dark Horse...now Gentle Giant?
Garfeimao writes: Wow, just got this update from Gentle Giant, and it
appears they will be taking over the partnership with WETA from Dark Horse.
The vast collection of Lord of the Rings products certainly require no
complement, and Gentle Giant would not have embarked on this enterprise
without the full blessing of the masters at Weta Collectibles.

Frodo prepares for stage premiere
It's addition-by-subtraction time in Toronto as the mammoth musical theater
version of "The Lord of the Rings" works on problems that caused the planned
3 1/2-hour show to run nearly five hours in its first preview. That's what
previews are for, and playgoers who have seen early performances are
reporting back favorably. "There's an absolutely fantastic 3 1/2 -hour show
in there somewhere," says Derrick Chua, 39, a Toronto attorney who attended
the very first preview, Feb. 4, at the Princess of Wales Theatre. Chua had
no illusions that he'd be seeing a finished product.

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
