Rings Roundup (Top headlines of major interest)

Toronto run of Lord of the Rings stage show extended until Sept. 24
TORONTO (CP) - Fans of Frodo Baggins will have a few more months to catch
the Lord of the Rings stage play - producers have announced they are
extending the show's run until September. A new block of tickets for 12
additional weeks is to go on sale Saturday. The theatrical version of J.R.R.
Tolkien's beloved book opened in mid-March at the city's Princess of Wales
Theatre to immense international fanfare. The theatre was selected as the
debut venue after producers said they couldn't find a London theatre large
enough to accommodate the technically complex production. The theatre also
announced a new entry-level price of $26, intended to lure non-Tolkien fans
to the show. The tickets buy seats in the balcony of the Princess of Wales
Theatre. The remaining seats sell for between $56 and $125.

Xoanon Tours WETA Report!
Earlier this morning I was allowed access to the coolest place on earth,
WETA Workshop. Located in a non-descript area of Wellington near the
airport, this small groupings of offices and warehouses has produced some of
the best practical and special effects seen in this century (and the last
one too). Not only that, but it is also a digital studio, miniatures unit,
production facility and more. If you've seen, held, or heard anything from
Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Narnia and a few other films in the last few
years, chances are it was made here.

that caused us to delay announcing the winners, but we are now ready to do
so. And don't forget to check out EA Games latest venture into the world of
the Lord of the Rings - The Battle for Middle-earth II, in stores now!

The Exhibition Returns to New Zealand
Linuxelf writes: The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy: The
Exhibition, returns at Te Papa museum Wellington. A quote from the site: "It
’s back home by popular demand – and full of great new stories and exhibits.
After its record-breaking season at Te Papa in 2002/03, and the blockbuster
international tour that followed, this exhibition has been seen by over one
million people around the world – but none have seen all of its latest
attractions.

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
