Jackson 'most powerful man in Hollywood'
Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has been named the most powerful
person in Hollywood. Premiere magazine's June issue says the 43-year-old New
Zealand-born director is one of the few "one man band productions that are
changing the grid of the power structure" in Tinseltown.

Fun at Park!
Our friends from The Tolkien Society send this along: This year’s Tolkien
Weekend at Sarehole Mill is not only going to be even bigger than last year
but it’s also the first event in the recently founded Shire Country Park.
Fun at Park is the sixth Tolkien Weekend event, and is now an annual item in
the Birmingham calendar. Sarehole Mill itself was the "original" for the
Mill at Bywater in the Shire in The Lord of the Rings and is a central point
in the Shire Country Park (see below for details) that covers the River
Cole, Chinn Brook, as well as Moseley Bog, the Dell and the Dingles where
JRR Tolkien played as a child.

Shore's LOTR Trilogy Voted no.1
Thousands of you voted...and here's the result - the Top 50 Movie
Soundtracks. And what a fascinating list it is too - no surprises that John
Williams clocked up the highest number of entries - 7 in total. But the
sweeping popularity of The Lord of the Rings just goes on and on. When we
ran a similar poll in 2001, Star Wars was top, with Gone with the Wind at
No.2, Lawrence of Arabia at No.3, Titanic at 4 and Casablanca at 5. This
time, The Lord of the Rings has stormed to the top, giving Howard Shore his
only place in the chart.

Hall Of Fire This Weekend - The Noldor Revolt!

'After a time a great concourse gathered around the Ring of Doom; and the
Valar sat in shadow, for it was night. But the stars of Varda now glimmered
overhead, and the air was clear; for the winds of Manwe had driven away the
vapours of death and rolled back the shadows of the sea.' The Silmarillion.

The Two Trees are destroyed and Morgoth has fled. Yet, even as the Valar and
the Elves mourn, the Powers ask Feanor to sacrifice the Silmarils so the Two
Trees might be resurrected by Yavanna.

The Tolkien Fan's Medieval Reader, edited by Turgon

Over the years Tolkien's fondness for and indebtedness to medieval
literature has often been mentioned. His special devotion to older Germanic
literature, including Beowulf and the Eddas, has long been known, for as a
professor he taught these works in addition to teaching the languages in
which they were written. This anthology has been compiled in the hope of
sharing the pleasures of these -- and other -- classics of medieval
literature that were part of Tolkien's professional life and inspirations to
him in his creative work.
