More DragonCon 2004 Images & Report
Celebriel writes: Here at DragonCon 18 in Atlanta, the mood is good, the
energy is high, and even the orcs are polite. It's not possible to generate
enough air conditioning to keep over 17,000 costumed enthusiasts cool,
especially those in velvet, leather, or armor. Day One got off to a great
start with Jincey is our TORn MC giving an overview of the Tolkien-related
conference events, which include a screening of the trilogy.

Classic Hobbit Song Re-recorded for 'RINGERS'!
'The Greatest Adventure' is what lies ahead for those who remember
Rankin/Bass' The Hobbit. But this time you won't hear Glen Yarbrough
warbling! The upcoming film Ringers: Lord of the Fans features one of
Southern California's best indie bands, Arlo, performing a fabulous rocking
new version. The first 'rough cut' of the documentary is almost ready --
visit the Ringers site for upcoming news about LOTR actors and legendary
rock stars appearing in the film!

The Fellowship Festival: A Report!
After three days of convention-madness the time has come to write something
about it. And to make an undoubtedly long story short: I loved it! It was
definitely a weekend well spent. A now for the slightly longer version...

TORN Trees Planted in NZ
Altaira writes: At this very moment, eleven trees are being planted oh
behalf of TORN in Wellington, NZ: nine for the Fellowship, one for PJ and
one for Tolkien (not to mention the 11 Oscars connection)! The grass-roots
fundraiser was started on the discussion boards and thanks to ads on the
Home Page, raised enough for the trees AND over $800 US for PJ's favorite
charity - an organ donation program in NZ.

One Hobbity-Step Closer?
PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. has restricted its
employees' ability to trade shares in the company, and could announce a deal
to be acquired for up to $5 billion as soon as next week, according to
sources close to the company. Time Warner, which had three big hits with the
"Lord of the Rings" movies, could be close to acquiring MGM, which has movie
rights to "The Hobbit," the fourth story of the series.

Detailed Fellowship Festival Report
Marysia writes: I just spent three days at the Fellowship Festival in
Alexandra Palace. The Fellowship Festival is the first UK based attempt to

of the Rings movie fans.

LOTR Exhibit Moves to Houston in 2005?
eekfrenzy writes: I just came back from the Houston Museum of Natural
Science, where to my delight I found out that the Lord of the Rings Exhibit
will be shown in summer 2005. Apparently Boston isn't the only US stop! The
Houston Museum of Natural Science web pages do not yet have the exhibit
listed, but I verified it with several Museum workers.

TORN's Own Book: The People's Guide to J.R.R. Tolkien

Cold Spring Press is pleased to announce its new book "The People's Guide to
J.R.R. Tolkien." This book of essays fills the void between the release of
the second and third Lord of the Rings movies. Passionate, ardent,
well-informed, and unlike any other book on the subject, this is an
indispensable handbook for people who consider themselves experts -- or who
wish to become experts -- on the lore of Middle-earth and the man who made
the myths.
