In the second age, Gil-Galad remained in Middle Earth to battle
Sauron during the Dark Years, acquiring aid from Numeanor at times.
Gil-Galad and Elendil formed the last alliance of Elves and Men, and
led them to the defeat of Sauron in the Battle of dagorlad. in the year
3441, Gil-Galad and Elendil overthrew Sauron, and were slain in the
process.
