Biography: The son of Amandil, Elendil grew up to see the height of Númenor's beauty, and it's terrible demise. Perceiving Sauron's evil intent, Elendil's father Amandil requested that he prepare nine great vessels capabale of carry him and many of his kin. Though his father disappeared at sea shortly afterwards, it was these vessels that saved Elendil from death when Númenor was consumed by the sea. East they sailed, Elendil with his brother and his son Isildur, and Elendil soon founded his realm beyond Ered Luin, where be befriended Gil-galad. Elendil, along with his kin, proceeded to build the strongholds of Gondor: Minas Ithil, Minas Anor, Osgiliath and Isengard.
With the aid of Palantiri Elendil kept watch over much of Middle-earth, and whenever lonely he would turn his gaze back to the seas. However, underneath his watchful eye Sauron returned to Middle-earth and slowly he regained his lost power. Fearing he would grow too strong for both their people, Elendil and Gil-galad forged the Last Alliance of Elves and Man, a great host which drove through Sauron's minions in Dagorland before reaching his stronghold of Mordor. There they laid siege for seven years before Sauron himself finally came onto the battle-field and wreaked havoc, slaying Anárion and Gil-galand before finally casting Elendil down also, his sword lying broken beside him.
