U.S. Trilogy Tuesday Details LAST UPDATE: 2:35 pm, Monday 10/20 |
I thank each and every one of you for your contributions to this page. THIS COULD NOT HAVE BEEN DONE WITHOUT YOU! By the end of the month we hope to transition this page to listing information about the showings themselves.. Please stay tuned. :)
While the Trilogy showing has sold out in most U.S. theaters, individual showings of the Extended Editions remain plentiful. If you are truly bummed at the thought of not sharing this experience with other Tolkien fans, I would suggest that you investigate joining your local line party (we've linked to each of them below): Many of the line party leaders are planning to go en masse to individual showings of the EEs, as well as planning lots of fun events for the night of the 16th as well. You can join one of the ones below or find a line party near you.
There are still tickets AVAILABLE in some locations. According to one report, some theaters confirmed as sold out are still showing tickets on Fandango. The eternally hopeful among you may wish to recheck. Some of the theaters below may be sold out, but we have not received confirmation. WE STILL DO NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING CANADIAN THEATERS.
The following information was collected from the hundreds of e-mails we have received from our intrepid Ringer Spies, as well as our very own Line Party leaders. Please confirm this information with your own theaters. TheOneRing.net has no way of confirming this information or verifying the sales practices of individual theaters, movie house chains, or online sales sites. For your own peace of mind: Please CONFIRM anything you read here.

The woman I spoke with was very thorough and documented all the details I gave her (when I encountered what, when I was told or heard what from which source, etc.). This is a special ticket event, one price of $35.00 for the day, to see all three films. (IT has created the necessary pricing scheme at your location.) A New Line representative will be at each location to distribute a special commemorative gift to each patron for the Trilogy Presentation. MANDATORY ASSIGNED SHOW TIMES: 2:00 PM - "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring"; 6:00 PM - "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers"; 10:00 PM - "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King." (p.s. Most Regal Cinemas seem to be selling tickets online via Fandango)

Porthos writes: (2:03 pm EST 10/10) I got my Century Theatre update today, and it had a link to the Trilogy Tuseday info for Century Theatres (which was amusingly enough *NOT* up yesterday). It details the "Hobbit Snack" and "Orc Feast" promotions that *ALL* Century Theaters have going on. I just got off the phone with managment at the Sacramento theatre and was told that people could upgrade their tickets they bought to the "Hobbit Snacks" or "Orc Feasts" over the next couple of weeks by going to the theatre and speaking with managment. BJS writes: (8:48 pm EST 10/18) For those of you holding Trilogy Tuesday tickets to the Uptown, please call the theatre at 202-966-8805 and urge the manager to allow everyone to hold their seats between shows. If they try to clear the theatre as has been suggested, it will lead to a mad dash for the doors at the end of each film, with great potential for fans becoming injured.
LLL writes: (2:37 pm EST 10/13) I wanted to update you regarding the seating situation at the Uptown in D.C. As Denise reported on 10/10, the Uptown will be clearing the theaters after every showing, requiring viewers to scramble all over again for seats for each new movie. I confirmed this today by calling the theater. The number for the theater is (202) 966-8805.
Rachel writes: (5:30 pm EST 10/10) For those folks who are still confused by the train wreck that ordering tickets via Fandango for the Uptown theater in Washington DC:
The story: Fandango sent the registration information to the Uptown Theater in Seattle (which isn't showing the trilogy) rather than to the Uptown in DC, so the theater here wasn't able to offer one ticket to all three movies. When they realized that, they scrambled to offer tickets to each movie, hoping that people would understand they had to purchase 3 tickets per seat for that day.
But then Fandango hosed them again; not only was there no explanatory text on the webpage, but the webpage didn't even list all three movies! You can buy tickets to all three, but the link to the middle on is hidden on the page.
The result: The Uptown vended all the tickets to themselves. If you purchased tickets to the 1:00 (FOTR) and 10:30 (ROTK), take your credit card and purchase confirmation to the Uptown and they will sell you tickets to the 5:30 show (TTT). You'll need to bring cash to buy the tickets (the credit card is proof-of-purchase for the others), but there's no service charge. They will give you the tickets to all 3 movies at that time.
maegwen here: The saga of The Uptown Theatre merits a page of its own, but also wins my "Most Confusion Generated" award. Hands down, no contest.

It's only about a 2 hour drive (at the most) from Atlanta, and on the state border between Georgia and Alabama. I know that the Chamblee, GA theater sold out really fast, but as far as I know tickets for the Columbus, GA theater are still available on Fandango. For those that were heart broken when they found out their theater had already sold out, it might not be too bad of a drive, and I'm sure it would be worth it. :)

BJ writes: (3:05 EST 10/11) Fandango had enormous problems on the 9th of October, I desperately tried to get through by Phone and On-Line, no luck, and since I teach on Thursday afternoon (12:30-1:50 World History survey at a local college)--I left home feeling very down about the whole situation. However, after my class, I drove over to Kerasotes 16 (just 8 minutes from my house and the college) and walked in and said to the young man on the ticket counter, Trilogy Tuesday Lord of the Rings do you still have tickets, he said "Yes" and I said here is my credit card, I want one and forked over my forty bucks, then scurried home like Gollum with his precious, and placed my ticket in a very special envelope, clearly labeled, and spent the rest of the day mumbling "my precious, my precious", and driving all the people at my workplace a bit nuts. When I purchased my ticket at 2:30 PM they had approx. 70 left, but a couple of minutes later as I left, I heard someone say to him, Fandango just got our site up, so I anticipate the remaining tickets went in a few minutes (or seconds). I would consider the Indianapolis location sold out . . . just to let you know the manager at Kerasotes replied personally to all my e-mails, and sent a fulsome apology to me about the Fandango fiasco. They were wonderful and gave full information to any inquiry from me. So now I am "in training" for the big day (planning for restroom breaks et. al.) Take care, BJ

The showing starts at 1:00. They will show FotR EE, then have a one hour break. Then they will show TT EE. Then there will be another one hour break. They also said RotK will begin at midnight. These times don't quite work out, so I guess we will have to wait for more information to come through. Tickets are $25.00.

Line Party Leader Mariella writes: Only about 1/3 of our LP was able to get tickets for Trilogy Tuesday. The information we got from Loews turned out to be wrong. Fandango tickets did not go on sale at 1PM, and none of the 800 numbers returned anything. Besides a few lucky folk, the only people who were able to get tickets were the ones who waited in line at the theater. Apparently fandango failed to put a limit on the number of tickets sold to individuals as well, and so we saw our precious tickets leaked out to e-Bay not 30 minutes later. Loews is blaming it on fandango for getting the time wrong and New Line for being so stingy with the reels. We are currently lobbying Loews for an additional showing, or at least a midnight ROTK showing. SEE LINE PARTY PAGE FOR DETAILS

Jose writes: (8:42 am EST 10/13) Got mine by standing in line in shifts with friends and relatives. Unfortunately, many people in the middle to back of the line were not so lucky. I talked to the owner (great guy), who said they actually tried to convince New Line to let them show ROTK at 8:00 p.m., so that they could do a midnight show for all those who couldn't get tickets or make it to the trilogy showing. The most New Line was willing to do was let them start it at 10:00 p.m., which is too bad. What's really nice is that the Senator is going to have a system whereby you can keep your seats that you get for FOTR for the whole day. They're actually going to station an employee in the theater during the break to make sure nobody shifts any seats around while we're all out eating. Like I said, they rock.

So if people from Texas or surrounding states wouldn't mind driving a few hours, they may still yet attend. You can purchase them through Fandango.com by phone. The marathon will start at 1:45 pm on December 16 with TT showing at roughly 5:45 pm and King being shown around 10:00 pm. Tickets will be $30. I am going to get with the entire line and see what days will be best to view the EE viewings prior to the 16th. Our line will remain at the Imax and we will only be viewing ROTK on that night.

The person I spoke with (a real person) confirmed that they are sold out -- apparently, their phone order system doesn't tell you that it is sold out until AFTER you enter your credit card number. Adrian writes: I'd like to share with you a reply from Warner Village Cinemas (a major nationwide chain) in the UK concerning the possibility of seeing the extended editions of the FOTR and TT, followed by the ROTK: "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers" will be available for us to show in December, and we are planning, at some cinemas, to do so. However specific plans, whether we show the films as a Lord of the Rings marathon leading up to "The Return of the King" or show the two previous films over a period of time has yet to be decided. We are planning on having tickets on sale by the end of October and will be contacting all our on line members with details of any screenings planned. Jon writes: UCI is the UK's largest cinema chain. Almost all of their theatres will be showing the original theatrical versions of both The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers on Sunday 16th of December at 4pm and 7pm respectivly as part of their director's chair season (this does not mean directors cut unfortunatly). Whether or not this will be followed by a midnight Return of the King has yet to be decided, but I think there is a good chance that most of them will. Don't be put off by the fact it says the 12th December(that is just start of week date), both films will actually be shown on Sunday 14th and Tuesday 16th.
