Searching for Prince Caspian

9/28/06, 9:17 pm EST - Xoanon

September 28, 2006 - The star search is on for the actor who will headline The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Preliminary auditions have been held in Britain, with more to follow, reports NarniaWeb.com; director Andrew Adamson will probably fly over to the UK in October to assist in the final selection. The casting department is also seeking a large number of extras of Spanish or Mediterranean descent for the film — most likely, to play the Telmarines who occupy Narnia during the time the story takes place. According to the book, the men of Telmar had pirates as their ancestors — swarthy buccaneers who stumbled through a remote portal from our world to Narnia. [More]

WETAers art Exhibit in Wellington

9/12/06, 9:19 pm EST - Xoanon

Will writes: Thought your Wellington viewers might be interested in this. A group of folks at Weta Digital are putting together a photo exhibition on at Thistle Hall Community Gallery next week (17th-21st September, 2006). It's a chance for people to see some art away from the fantastical worlds and characters they have a habit of creating. It opens on Sunday the 17th at 6pm - there's bound to be drinks and nibbles available, but feel free to stop by any time during the week and have a look. It'll be a fun, little exhibition to come and see. For more information visit earlyworm.co.nz

C. S. Lewis classic rates No.1 in Canterbury

9/11/06, 7:08 pm EST - Xoanon

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has won the hearts of Canterbury readers and was last night named their favourite book. C. S. Lewis's classic children's tale narrowly beat the Bible and Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code in the What's Your Favourite? competition run by Christchurch City Libraries, The Press and the Christchurch Book Festival Trust. About 5000 people voted for the overall favourite from a list of 20 books decided by an earlier poll. The voting spread throughout Canterbury after libraries in the Waimakariri, Selwyn, Ashburton and Timaru districts joined in. The only New Zealand book in the top 20, and the biggest surprise, was Billy Barnz's the Goat Hunter, which tells of the author's experiences as a gun-position officer with the Kiwi contingent in the Vietnam War. It finished 12th in the poll. [More]

Water Horse Set Photos Update

9/11/06, 6:57 pm EST - Xoanon

Ringer Spy Taniwha writes: Hey there, Xoanon - just been looking at the Waterhorse story & photos (located here), and I can pretty conclusively say that what you're seeing in this photo is the back of Gollum's head from the Embassy Theatre - hence the hand next to it, as well. Just look at the wispy bits of hair, and the scar on top. It's this image on this website from the back.
