WETA/Sideshowtoys Series III - Xoanon @ 01:08 PST
The cool folks at WETA/Sideshowtoy have updated their site with series III of the LOTR set. Be sure to check out Saruman, Sam Gamgee with Bill the Pony, an Orc Brute, Merry Brandybuck (statue and bust), Bilbo Baggins, A Cleaved Orc, High Elven Infantryman, a Nazgul Steed, and an Orc Soldier.

They also have some great 'helms';

These cast metal helms (helmets) are exact 1:4 scale miniatures of the helmets used in the "Fellowship of the Ring." They have been expertly recreated by the same metalsmiths who made the full scale pieces for the film(s). Each sits on a classically turned pedestal that includes the name of the helm and the sculptor's signature.

A new feature has been added, environments, as seen in our extensive Comic-Con 2001 coverage, you can take a look at these very cool scale images of places in Middle-earth.

These environments are exact miniatures of sets used in the "Fellowship of the Ring". They have been expertly recreated by the same artists who made the full scale pieces for the film(s). Each sits on a base that includes the name of the helm and the sculptor's signature.

The big questions is...when do I get my samples to play with?! C'mon WETA/Sideshow!! show your love!

Check these all out here. www.sideshowtoy.com

Glamdring: An ancient sword carried by Gandalf the Grey, who is an old, but powerful wizard and friend to Frodo Baggins. He joins Frodo and the other selected members of the “Fellowship” as they cross Middle-earth in an effort to reach Mount Doom and destroy the Ring. Glamdring, a magical sword, glows in the presence of an enemy and it serves Gandalf in his mission to aid the Fellowship of the Ring. Sting: A magical sword given to Frodo Baggins by his cousin Bilbo, the original Ringbearer. It is up to Frodo and the chosen “Fellowship” to cast the Ring back into the fires of Mount Doom, where it was originally forged, and destroy it once and for all. Bilbo gives Sting, a sword made by Elves in the ancient days, to Frodo to serve him on his harrowing journey. Bilbo carried Sting with him when he originally acquired the Ring from Gollum. Sting’s blade glows when Orcs, the violent footsoldiers of Sauron, are present. Also called Dark Riders or the Nazgul, they can sense when the One Ring is near and can see the Ringbearer clearly when he puts it on. Bakshi's LOTR at Wal-Mart - Xoanon @ 10:29 PST
From: Lester

I just picked up a copy of Ralph Bashki's Lord of the Rings at my local central Florida WalMart. There was a ton of them in the movie section for $9.99. They must be a brand new running cause the new Harry Potter trailer was featured before the movie! So that probably means most WalMarts will be carrying them.

Franklin Mint - Xoanon @ 13:31 PST

From: Gorel

I was in the check out line at the grocery store when I picked up the Weekly World News because of a bizarre story on the front page (something about gay corpses from the Titanic). I noticed that the back had a full page ad for a Lord of the Rings - Gandalf collector knife from the Franklin Mint.
