Buy 'The Last Unicorn' DVD: Help Peter S. Beagle! - Xoanon @ 16:56 PST
The Last Unicorn: 25th Anniversary Edition On 2/6/07 Lionsgate will release The Last Unicorn: 25th Anniversary Edition — a widescreen digitally remastered DVD version of the animated classic, including additional features and material — with special Conlan Press distribution on behalf of author and screenwriter Peter S. Beagle. The Last Unicorn has been a worldwide success in its theatrical film, cable, VHS, and DVD versions. But to date, author and screenwriter Peter S. Beagle has never been paid anything from the millions of dollars the film has earned.

Now, by special arrangement with Lionsgate Entertainment, customers can ensure that more than half their purchase price of this 25th Anniversary Edition DVD will go directly to support Peter S. Beagle and his projects by buying through Conlan Press (www.conlanpress.com).

Although The Last Unicorn: 25th Anniversary Edition will be available from all major DVD retailers, only purchases made through Conlan Press (www.conlanpress.com) will benefit Mr. Beagle.

The Last Unicorn: 25th Anniversary Edition DVD features an all-star cast of voice talent, and songs performed by the band America. Starring Christopher Lee, Mia Farrow, and Academy Award® nominees Alan Arkin, Angela Lansbury, and Jeff Bridges, the movie tells the powerful tale of a unicorn who sets out on a quest to find her lost brothers and sisters. The film’s character design and animation were done by the Japanese artists who went on to become the core of Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli (My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away).

With screenplay by Hugo Award-winning author Peter S. Beagle (based on his own world-famous fantasy novel), this long-awaited special edition DVD makes the widescreen version of The Last Unicorn available for the first time in the United States, and brings the film to life in its highest quality ever, with digitally remastered video and 5.1 audio.

It ships in a new printed-foil slipcase, and includes a host of DVD special features, including “The Tail of The Last Unicorn” featurette (with an interview with author Peter S. Beagle), a set-top game, a photo and cover gallery, and the original theatrical trailer.

Lionsgate is supporting this 25th anniversary DVD release with an online advertising and promotional campaign targeting the film’s fantasy and animation fan base, as well as a print and online advertising campaign targeting moms, kids, and entertainment enthusiasts.

AVAILABILITY AND PRICING

The DVD street date is 02/06/07. Conlan Press will offer two different versions: the standard release for $14.98, and a personally-autographed version, signed in three places by Peter S. Beagle himself, for $24.98.

DVD Tuesday: Snakes, Beer & More! - Xoanon @ 12:06 PST
Artie lange's Beer League: Beer, broads and baseball combine with hilarious results in ARTIE LANGE'S BEER LEAGUE...an over-the-top comedy about a group of misfits whose weekly softball games seem to have a lot more to do with getting into fights for macho dominance than hitting home runs. Artie is an unemployed and unmotivated drunk that is predictably still living with his mother. He is on a losing softball team, and he and his teammates are facing the end of softball as they know it if they can't pull it together. When love enters his life, it unexpectedly alters Artie's low self-esteem, and the odds for winning, not only the league trophy, but a new life, are certainly looking up. He and his teammates will have to go for the win, and survive all the comedy and chaos along the way.

Balzac: Gerard Depardieu stars in the sprawling saga of Honore de Balzac, author of THE HUMAN COMEDY, who crafted some of our century's most unforgettable writing from his own blazing passion for life. Gruff, unsophisticated and far from handsome, Balzac managed to become one of the most sought after men in his circle of famous writers in 19th Century France, leaving a trail of scandal and heartbreak in his wake. Prepare to be carried away to a life filled with desire and see it through the eyes of one of its most spirited participants.

Contact/Sphere: Is something or someone out there? Messages from outer space raise hopes (and, for some, fears) that intelligent beings from light years away are reaching out to us...and sending design plans for the machine that can take us to meet them. Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey star in and Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump) directs an exhilarating adaptation of Carl Sagan's Contact (Side A), the dazzling tale of humanity's greatest voyage of discovery. The excitement runs deep in Sphere (Side B) as officials find a huge spacecraft that plunged into the Pacific - 300 years earlier. Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone and Samuel L. Jackson lead an underwater expedition into the mysterious craft in this adventure directed by Barry Levinson (Rain Man) and based on Michael Crichton's novel. Step aboard for a new dimension in thrills!

The Fugitive / U.S. Marshals: Harrison Ford is desperate prison escapee Richard Kimble, wrongfully convicted of his wife's murder; Tommy Lee Jones is relentless lawman Sam Gerard (and an Oscar? winner to boot, earning 1993's Best Supporting Actor statue for his performance) - and the chase is on! Andrew Davis (Under Siege) directs The Fugitive [Side A], combining an 11-on-a-scale-of-10 train wreck, a daring waterfall plunge, a cat-and-mouse gambit through Chicago's St. Patrick's Day Parade and the kinetic fire of his two main stars into one of the most exhilarating manhunt movies ever. The adrenaline-rush hour continues when Jones reprises the role of Gerard and Stuart Baird (Executive Decision) directs U.S. Marshals [Side B]. Wesley Snipes plays a murder suspect who's on the same 727 aircraft as Gerard. Buckle up, action fans!

Gettysburg / Gods and Generals: Key battles of America's Civil War thunder across the screen in two richly scaled, rigorously authentic, powerfully compelling epics based on acclaimed historical novels by Michael Shaara. The tide of the war changes during three fierce days of combat at Gettysburg [Disc 1], the gripping saga of the tactics, command errors and sacrifices behind the bloodiest battle ever fought on U.S. soil. Gods and Generals [Disc 2] reveals the spirited allegiances and fierce combat of earlier Civil War struggles, framing its tale with the fateful clashes at Bull Run, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. These sprawling films remind us of the people, passions and heroism that fanned the flames of a country at war with itself.

Glory (Special Edition, Repackaged): The heart-stopping story of the first black regiment to fight for the North in the Civil War, Glory stars Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes and Morgan Freeman. Broderick and Elwes are the idealistic young Bostonians who lead the regiment; Freeman is the inspirational sergeant who unites the troops; and Denzel Washington, in an Oscar® - winning performance (1989, Best Supporting Actor), is the runaway slave who embodies the indomitable spirit of the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts.

Martin: Complete First Season: Martin Lawrence (Bad Boys, Big Momma's House) plays Martin Payne, a brash radio personality who always speaks his mind, often to the frustration of Gina (Tisha Campbell), his feisty but eternally forgiving girlfriend. Always around are Martin's "hang out partners," Tommy, Cole, and Pam (Tichina Arnold), a co-worker of Gina's. Find out wazzup in the outrageous world of Martin. The first season of the classic Fox comedy series, Martin, finally arrives on DVD January 2, 2007 in a 4-disc set. The DVD features hilarious bloopers as well as audio commentary by star Martin Lawrence on some of his favorite scenes. Don't let your customers miss out on owning one of the most requested TV series DVDs!

Million Dollar Mystery: A disparate group of travelers is eating in an isolated restaurant when a man drops dead of a heart attack. Before he dies, they discover that he is wanted for stealing several million dollars, and he tells them that he has hidden a million dollars in each of four different locations, and gives them clues as to where the locations are. They all then take off and try to get to the hidden treasure before any of the others do.

Perfect 10 Model Boxing: No description available

Seven Swords: In the early 1600's, the Manchurians have taken over sovereignty of China and established the Ching Dynasty. The newly set-up government immediately imposes a Martial Arts Ban, forbidding the practice of martial arts altogether in order to gain control and order. A group of soldiers travel the country seeking out those who would flout the law. A swordsman and his disciples decide to take the fight to the enemy, following a plea from a group of villagers. The SEVEN SWORDS is formed and their heroic journey begins. As they lead the entire village to the road of a safer place, they discover there is a trator amongst them. Between this narrow gap of life and death, the situation is further complicated by the blossoms of love.

Snakes on a Plane: Snakes on a Plane knows exactly what kind of movie it is, knows exactly what moviegoers expect from a title like Snakes on a Plane, and delivers the exact pleasures of a movie in which poisonous snakes are unleashed on a plane to kill an eyewitness to murder. Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, The Long Kiss Goodnight) knows exactly what he's doing in this movie and knows exactly when to pull out the superbad Samuel L. Jackson stare and deliver the infuriated Samuel L. Jackson bellow. The rest of the cast--including Julianna Margulies (ER), Rachel Blanchard (the TV series Clueless), Kenan Thompson (Fat Albert), David Koechner (Anchorman), Bobby Canavale (The Station Agent), and Sunny Mabrey (One Last Thing...)--play their parts with admirably straight faces and deadpan humor. Director David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2, Cellular) gives the movie the much-needed headlong momentum you would expect from a former stunt coordinator. In summation: A perfect piece of self-aware but not self-conscious high camp entertainment, blending comedy and thrills in perfect proportion.

Tales of Voodoo Box Set: Contains Ten films: *Volume 1: Jungle Virgin Force/ Hell Hole *Volume 2: Ghost Ninja/ Primitives *Volume 3: Rapist /Devil’s Express *Volume 4: Cannibal Curse/ Temple of Hell *Volume 5: Dog Called Vengeance/ Scorpion Thunderbolt

Covenant: In 1692, in the Ipswich Colony of Massachusetts, five families with untold power formed a covenant of silence. One family, lusting for more, was banished, their bloodline disappearing without a trace. Until now. Four young students at an elite private school who are descendants of the original families who settled in Ipswich Colony in the 1600s, are bound by their sacred ancestry and special powers. When the body of a dead student is discovered after a party, secrets begin to unravel that threaten to break the covenant of silence that has protected their families for hundreds of years.

Sex, Censorship and The Silver Screen: From the moment Thomas Edison shocked the public with May Irwin's unabashed kiss, the movie industry has become a battlefield for audiences who can't get enough of a good thing - and critics who believe some things are better left behind closed doors. SEX, CENSORSHIP AND THE SILVER SCREEN, a six-part documentary written and directed by Frank Martin traces the evolution of sexuality in America film, from the silent-film vamp Theda Bara to Elizabeth Taylor to the temptresses of ''Showgirls.'' Harrison Ford, Melanie Griffith, Marisa Tomei and Daryl Hannah recreate the voices of Hollywood legends to chronicle the continuing clash between screen sexuality and censorship. Raquel Welch is the host.

Wwe: Survivor Series 2006: No description available

The Skeletons of Mrs. Morales: This black comedy classis was adapted from horror master Arthuer Machen's story THE INGLINTON MYSTERY by screenwriter Luis Alcoriza, a frequent collaborator of Luis Bunuel. It tells the tale of quiet taxidermist Pablo Morales(former matinee idol Arturo de Cordova) who suffers the demands of his prudish and hypochandric wife Gloria (Spanish actress Amparo Rivelless). Over the top performances and an ironic, final twist make this film by Rogelio A. Gonzalez a timless satire of weepy melodramas.

Smugglers & A Girl Is a Gun: Films of Luc Moullet: From the mind of Luc Moullet, the unknown genius of the original French New Wave, comes this pair of riotous comedies that capture the movement’s spirit of anarchy. THE SMUGGLERS is the story of two women who smuggle packages and people between two warring nations. A wacky take on the action-adventure tale, the film exploits its low-budget look to offer a digressive and aggressive slapstick comedy. Called "maybe the best film not made by Godard" by Jean-Marie Straub, Europe’s leading intellectual filmmaker, this movie about borders and barriers sports a cameo appearance by Moullet himself, who is listed in the credits as the "pompous fool." Jean-Pierre Leaud, the iconic actor of the French New Wave (the "Antoine Doinel series") stars in this notorious, psychedelic French western. Swinging wildly between offbeat comedy and delirious experimentation, A GIRL IS A GUN finds gunslinger Leaud on the run in the Alps. Never released in France, but distributed outside the country, the film is an unsettling tale of lust and revenge loosely based on old Hollywood westerns.

Breakfast Club: It's the weekend, and five students have weekend detention. There's a jock, a princess, a misfit, a nerd, and a lout. Not much in common, except for having to give up their day, sit in the school library, and write an essay for the principal. Being from such widely different backgrounds and having such completely different personalities, it's inevitable that some frictions and shenanigans develop. Especially when the principal leaves the room...

Deer Hunter: Michael, Steven and Nick are young factory workers from Pennsylvania who enlist into the Army to fight in Vietnam. Before they go, Steven marries the pregnant Angela and their wedding-party is also the men's farewell party. After some time and many horrors the three friends fall in the hands of the Vietcong and are brought to a prison camp in which they are forced to play Russian roulette against each other. Michael makes it possible for them to escape, but they soon get separated again.

The Descent: On an annual extreme outdoor adventure, six women meet in a remote part of the Appalachians to explore a cave hidden deep in the woods. Far below the surface of the earth, disaster strikes when a rock fall blocks their exit and there's no way out. The women push on, praying for another exit, but there is something else lurking under the earth. The friends are now prey, forced to unleash their most primal instincts in an all-out war against an unspeakable horror - one that attacks without warning, again and again and again.

Transporter 2: Professional driver Frank Martin is living in Miami, where he is temporarily filling in for a friend as the chauffeur for a government narcotics control policymaker and his family. The young boy in the family is targeted for kidnapping, and Frank immediately becomes involved in protecting the child and exposing the kidnappers.

DVD Tuesday: Invincible, Fearless, Scanner! - Xoanon @ 10:30 PST
Invincible: From the producers of "The Rookie", this inspiring sports movie will star Mark Wahlberg as a Philadelphia Eagles fan who has just lost his wife and his teaching job. He decides one day to show up for an open tryout for his favorite NFL team, only to see his wildest dreams come true.

Jet Li's Fearless: Already a boxoffice hit in Asia, Jet Li's Fearless, directed by Ronny Yu (helmer of the Hong Kong classic The Bride with White Hair), is Jet Li's final martial arts masterpiece, capping a tremendous body of work in that genre. Jet Li's Fearless reunites the actor and martial arts superstar with producer Bill Kong (Hero) and action choreographer Yuen Wo Ping (Unleashed) as he portrays martial arts legend Huo Yuanjia, who became the most famous fighter in all of China at the turn of the 20th Century. Huo faced incredible personal tragedy but ultimately fought his way out of darkness and into history, forever defining the true spirit of martial arts. His self-discovery, and the choices he made, inspired his nation. The son of a great fighter who did not wish for his child to follow in his footsteps, the bullied Huo Yuanjia resolves to teach himself how to fight - and win. Years of training enable him to ace match after match in his home region of Tianjin. But as his fame as a martial arts master grows, so does his pride. After an ill-advised fight leads to another master's death, members of Huo's family are slain in revenge. Grieving and ashamed, Huo wanders the country in shock. Near death, he is rescued by women from an idyllic village, and is offered simple kindness and generosity that help him heal and regain his equilibrium over a period of several years. Huo realizes that the future of martial arts lies in sportsmanship and not brutality, and he rejoins society to apply what he has learned. Returning to Tianjin, Huo takes steps to come to terms with his past and restore his family's name. His evolving, graceful Mizong (Missing) Fist method of fighting brings Huo renewed success, and he forms the progressive Jingwu Sports Federation. Taking note, duplicitous members of the Foreign Chamber of Commerce engineer a Shanghai tournament pitting Huo against four fighters, each representing the major foreign powers in China. Huo commits to the bout and faces off against, respectively, a British boxer, a Spanish swordsman, a Belgian soldier, and a Japanese martial artist. What happened that day in 1910 has never been, and will never be, forgotten in China.

Lady in the Water: Apartment building superintendent Cleveland Heep (Giamatti) rescues what he thinks is a young woman from the pool he maintains. When he discovers that she is actually a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home, he works with his tenants to protect his new friend from the creatures that are determined to keep her in our world.

Little Miss Sunshine: Olive is a little girl with a dream: winning the Little Miss Sunshine contest. Her family wants her dream to come true, but they are so burdened with their own quirks, neuroses, and problems that they can barely make it through a day without some disaster befalling them. Olive's father Richard is a flop as a motivational speaker, and is barely on speaking terms with her mother. Her uncle Frank, a renowned Proust scholar, has attempted suicide following an unsuccessful romance with a male graduate student. Her brother Dwayne, a fanatical follower of Nietzsche, has taken a vow of silence, which allows him to escape somewhat from the family whose very presence torments him. And Olive's grandfather is a ne'er-do-well with a drug habit, but at least he enthusiastically coaches Olive in her contest talent routine. Circumstances conspire to put the entire family on the road together with the goal of getting Olive to the Little Miss Sunshine contest in far off California.

Married With Children: Complete Sixth Season: Married … with Children still reigns as one of the most shocking TV comedies ever produced and the sixth season is no exception. The Bundy family continue to live their daily lives in complete disarray. Kelly lands her own talk show, Al gets a job as a private detective, Bud dates an extreme sporter, Peg and Marcy (Amanda Bearse) discover that they are both pregnant, and Steve Rhoades (David Garrison) returns to reclaim his wife. The season climaxes with a three-part episode in which the Bundys visit England.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend: When Matt Saunders meets Jenny Johnson, he thinks he's found the perfect girl. However, he decides to break things off with her when she becomes too needy, controlling, and jealous. Jenny doesn't take it well and decides to get back at him by using her superpowers, as it turns out Jenny is a superhero named G-Girl. Meanwhile, Matt and his co-worker, Hannah start to have a romance with each other which sends Jenny over the edge.

National Lampoon's Pledge This: Get ready for the raucous, unrated version of National Lampoon’s Pledge This! starring Paris Hilton and Paula Garces (Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle). A group of freshman female misfits will do anything to get into the Gamma, Gamma Sorority but first they’ll have to impress Gamma president Victoria (Paris Hilton) . Soon it’s all out class warfare between these pledges and the beautiful "it" girls who rule the sorority scene. It’s a hilarious comedy in the over-the-top tradition of the Old School and Van Wilder comedies.

Operation Crossbow: A fearsome rumor reaches Britain's World War II command. The Nazis are developing rocket technology that could rain death on London and, then, New York. Quickly, England develops a plan to send saboteurs into the sites manufacturing the rockets. Just moments after the carefully chosen commandos parachute into the drop zone, their pilot receives an urgent message. The mission may be compromised. Abort. Operation Crossbow is the partly fact-based tale of how that team succeeded against daunting odds. Michael Anderson (The Dam Busters, Logan's Run) directs, guiding a huge cast in a film that builds to a spectacular finale, yet never neglects war's unsparing personal costs. As a record of a wartime espionage incursion and as an intrigue-filled thriller, Operation Crossbow is on both counts Operation Accomplished.

Paradise Kiss, Vol. 1: Based on the manga by Ai Yazawa, the shojo (girl's) series Paradise Kiss (2005) mixes fashion, romance, and teenage rebellion. Yukari Hayasaka is a hard-working student whose parents insist she prepare for college. When she meets four students from the Yazawa School of Design who want her to model their clothes in the school fashion show, she falls for George, the talented, bisexual star designer. Paradise Kiss suggests Project Runway re-imagined by the creators of Fancy Lala. The priggish Yukari does a 180-degree personality switch in record time, skipping cram school and lying to her mother. Just what she sees in the arrogant, orchidaceous George is never made clear. The animation is extremely limited and instead of playing scenes to their conclusion, director Osamu Kobayashi keeps cutting to images of flowers or stuffed animals. The story progresses at a leaden pace, despite the choppy editing, and the result is soap opera slush. (Rated 16 and older: sexual situations, risqué humor, alcohol use).

Police Story Special Edition: Police Story breaks new ground with its breathtaking fights and incredible stunt sequences. Featuring a top-notch cast, which includes multi-award winning actresses Brigitte Lin & Maggie Cheung, director Chan combines a compelling storyline of an honest cop on the run from a false murder charge with dynamic visuals and full-blooded fight action which is electrified with emotional underscoring. In the case of this particular project the price of excellence was high, with many of Jackie's elite stunt team being seriously injured during the course of principal photography.

Presenting Lily Mars: Presenting Judy Garland! Whether swinging a hot number with Bob Crosby's orchestra or emoting a hilariously hammy version of Lady Macbeth's sleepwalking scene, Judy is a delight as a stage-struck Hoosier in this charming film based on Booth Tarkington's novel. Lily just knows she has the talent to light up the Great White Way, so when a big Broadway producer (Van Heflin) visits her hometown, she expends all the candlepower of her charisma to impress him. He's not impressed. He heads back to New York and Lily follows, thumbing her way east on what she's sure is a one-way trip to instant stardom. At a mere 20 years old, Judy had already reached stardom. Presenting Lily Mars proves why, showcasing her once-in-a-generation voice, gift for comedy and enduring movie magnetism. Break a leg, Lily!

The Promise: A new epic fantasy set in China's mythical past, "The Promise" is a visually stunning tale of passion that unfolds against a backdrop of war as a beautiful and mysterious princess becomes the object of affection for three very different men - a powerful Duke, a brave general and a lowly slave. As passions spark and egos clash, lives will be ruined and lovers spurned and no one will ever be the same.

Savage Weekend: Several couples head to upstate New York to watch a boat being constructed. They are soon stalked by a murderer behind a ghoulish mask. This amazing film combines a mixture of sex and shocking violence. Filmed in 1976 but not released until 1981, this is one of the first slasher movies ever produced and is just as shocking today as when it was first screened.

A Scanner Darkly: Set in a not-too-distant future where America has lost its "war" on drugs, Fred, an undercover cop, is one of many people hooked on the popular drug, Substance D, which causes its users to develop split personalities. Fred is obsessed with taking down Bob, a notorious drug dealer, but due to his Substance D addiction, he does not know that he is also Bob. Based on a classic novel by Philip K. Dick. Starring Keanu Reeves ("Constantine," "The Matrix" trilogy), Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Winona Ryder ("Girl, Interupted," "Mr. Deeds"), Academy Award and Emmy-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Robert Downey Jr. ("Good Night, And Good Luck" "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang"), and Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominee and Emmy-winner Woody Harrelson ("North Country," "The People vs. Larry Flynt"). Directed by Academy Award-nominee Richard Linklater ("Before Sunset," "Dazed and Confused"). Filmed in live-action, and then animated using the same critically acclaimed process that Linklater used in his previous film, "Waking Life."

Simpsons: Season 9: The Simpsons are very politically incorrect family. Homer works with pride in a nuclear power plant run with more regard for profit that safety. Simpsons: Season 9 (Collectible Lisa Head Pack): The Simpsons are very politically incorrect family. Homer works with pride in a nuclear power plant run with more regard for profit that safety. Sir! No Sir!: Award-winning breakout theatrical hit SIR! NO, SIR! unfolds the stunning and often forgotten story of the military men and women who helped force the U.S. government to end the Vietnam War. Poignantly narrated by a diverse cast of veteran GI resisters, who recall the ferocious days of peace marches and stiff jail sentences, SIR! NO, SIR! pulls no punches in its raw depiction of the power of people, especially those in uniform. Trading dog tags for picket signs, Purple Hearts for peace signs, thousands of ordinary GIs in that world-changing era broke ranks to start up homemade underground papers, subversive coffee shops near military bases, and to engage in mass civil disobedience that brought the war machine to its knees. Directed by David Zeiger, SIR! NO, SIR! is "powerful stuff, offering us not only a new look at the past, but to the unavoidably relevant insights into the present" (NEW YORK DAILY NEWS).

Super Gals: Season 2 - The Heart of Shibuya: No description available

There Was a Crooked Man...: Arizona Territorial Prison inmate Paris Pittman is a schemer, a charmer and quite popular among his fellow convicts - especially with $500,000 in stolen loot hidden away and a plan to escape and recover it. New Warden Woodward Lopeman has other ideas about Pittman. Each man will have the tables turned on him. Academy Award? winner* Joseph L. Mankiewicz cleverly lassoes a twisting, turning Wild West tale of brawls, chases, shootouts and wry wit, courtesy of a script by David Newman and Robert Benton (Bonnie and Clyde). Kirk Douglas as Pittman and Henry Fonda as Lopeman headline a sterling cast, with Hume Cronyn, Burgess Meredith, Warren Oates and Lee Grant among the solid support. Boisterous yet blistering, lighthearted yet lacerating, There Was a Crooked Man is, throughout all its moods, delivishly entertaining.

Today and Tomorrow: Paula, a 24-year-old aspiring actress in Buenos Aires, is trapped in a cycle of unpaid bills and debts. Reluctantly, she calls a friend who mentors her in a new way to make money - streetwalking. The two set out and meet a variety of clients in quick succession. Advice from her friend flashes through Paula's head: she must try to not gain any pleasure and keep it strictly business.

Up Periscope: A navy lieutenant (James Garner "Maverick") during World War II is ordered aboard a submarine to get special photographs of a Japanese-controlled island.

Walt Disney Treasures - More Silly Symphonies: From the beginning, Walt Disney's SILLY SYMPHONIES series was a mecca for innovation and unabashed creativity. This second volume of the revolutionary series boasts some of Disney's rarest cartoons, including over a dozen never before released on DVD or video. Among the many animation treasures celebrated here are the never-before-released HELL'S BELLS and the original unedited MOTHER GOOSE GOES HOLLWYOOD, plus the Academy Award(R)-winning THREE ORPHAN KITTENS (Best Cartoon, 1935). Enriching the collection even further are several optional commentaries by some of the world's foremost animation and film music experts, who also take part in a lively conversation about the series that let Walt Disney push the envelope of animation art to unimaginable flights of fantasy. Featuring exclusive introductions by film historian Leonard Maltin, this is a timeless collection from generations past for generations to come.

Walt Disney Treasures - The Complete Pluto, Volume Two: Unlike the other animal characters in Disney's cartoon repertory company who served as substitute humans, Pluto remained a dog. Although he began as Mickey Mouse's companion, he was soon given films of his own: Mickey and Minnie appear in only a few of these cartoons from the late '40s and early '50s. Most of the stories follow the pattern animator Norm Ferguson set in "Playful Pluto" (1934). The hectored hound has to cope with either a recalcitrant object or an adorable but problematic animal: a little bird in "Pluto's Fledgling," the embarrassing pink sweater Minnie knits in "Pluto's Sweater," Chip an' Dale in "Food for Feudin'." The animation in these shorts is polished and subtle: the animators capture the nuances of a change in expression as skillfully as the rhythm of a run. But the humor feels very tame. While director Charles Nichols and his staff made beautiful, amusing films, the artists at Warner Bros. and MGM were pioneering a brasher, faster-paced style of cartoon that was much funnier.

Walt Disney Treasures - The Mickey Mouse Club Featuring the Hardy Boys: From the moment Thurl Ravenscroft intoned, "Gold doubloons and pieces of eight/ Handed down to Applegate," "The Mystery of the Applegate Treasure" became one of the best-loved serials on the The Mickey Mouse Club, second only to "The Adventures of Spin and Marty." Gifted young actors Tim Considine and Tommy Kirk make a believable pair of adolescent sleuths: Frank and Joe Hardy want to follow in the footsteps of their father, private detective Fenton Hardy. Summer vacation in the little town of Bayport seems boring until Frank and Joe run into Perry Robinson, a new kid in their neighborhood, who them leads into the search for the long-lost pirate treasure of local eccentric Silas Applegate. There's plenty of low-key daring-do, suitably sinister villains, misread clues, and wholesome comedy to keep young children (or grandchildren) occupied while Baby Boomers delight in recalling how they enjoyed the adventure in the mid-'50s.

Walt Disney Treasures - Your Host, Walt Disney: More than a time-capsule treasure for Disney buffs, this two-disc set will warm the nostalgic hearts of baby boomers who eagerly looked forward to their weekly visits with "Uncle Walt" Disney. As the host of his anthology series, Disneyland (later Walt Disney Presents, then The Wonderful World of Color), Disney presented classic cartoons and original programs, but he also gave starry-eyed viewers a privileged, behind-the-scenes look inside his magic kingdom, from the construction of his magnificent theme park to animators at work. Disneyland transformed Disney into the face of Disney Studios, a pied piper, according to film historian Leonard Maltin, who introduces the features on each disc. This collection of episodes features Disney at his most avuncular. "Where Do the Stories Come From" (1956) is a fun exploration of where Disney artists find their inspiration. "Fourth Anniversary Show" (1951) charts the development of the Disney featurette, Peter and the Wolf, but then becomes a surprise-party musical extravaganza for Disney hosted by his Mouseketeers, and featuring appearances by Guy "Zorro" Williams and Fess "Davy Crockett" Parker. Long-thought lost, "Kodak Presents Disneyland '59," is a black and white kinescope recording of a live, 90-min. television special (compete with entertaining Kodak commercials featuring Ozzie and Harriet Nelson and sons) that serves to introduce three new attractions to Disneyland: the Nautilus submarine ride, the Monorail and the Matterhorn. Look for rising stars Clint Eastwood and Dennis Hopper among parade participants.

When the Levees Broke: One year after Hurricane Katrina decimated New Orleans, director Spike Lee presents a four-hour, four-part chronicle recounting, through words and images, one of our country?s most profound natural disasters. In addition to revisiting the hours leading up to the arrival of Katrina, a Category 5 hurricane before it hit the coast of Louisiana, When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts tells the personal stories of those who lived to tell about it, at the same time exploring the underbelly of a nation where the divide along race and class lines has never been more pronounced.

The Wicker Man (Widescreen Unrated/Rated Edition): Out patrolling a California highway, police officer Edward Malus (Nicolas Cage) stops a station wagon to return a little girl's lost doll. Moments later, a runaway truck slams into the station wagon, igniting it into a fiery wreck with the mother and child trapped inside. Edward fails to save them before the car explodes...and then spends months of his life choking down pills to get the image of their faces out of his head. But Edward is about to get a second chance. A desperate letter from his former girlfriend, Willow (Kate Beahan), arrives at his home with no postmark. Willow came into his life and left just as unexpectedly years before. But now, her daughter Rowan has gone missing, and Edward is the only person she trusts to help locate her. She asks him to come to her home on a private island - Summersisle - a place with its own traditions where people observe a forgotten way of life. Edward seizes the opportunity to make his life right again, and soon finds himself on a seaplane bound for the islands of the Pacific Northwest. But nothing is what it seems on isolated Summersisle, where a culture, dominated by its matriarch Sister Summersisle (Ellen Burstyn), is bound together by arcane traditions and a pagan festival called "the Day of Death and Rebirth." The secretive people of Summersisle only ridicule his investigation, insisting that a child named Rowan never existed there... or if she ever did was no longer alive. But what Edward doesn't know is that Willow's plea for help has invited more into his life than a chance for redemption. In unraveling Summersisle's closely held secrets, Edward is drawn into a web of ancient traditions and murderous deceit, and each step he takes closer to the lost child brings him one step closer to the unspeakable. And one step closer to the Wicker Man.

Hogan's Heroes: Complete Season 5: The inmates of a German World War II Prisoners of War camp conduct espionage and sabotage campaign right under the noses of their warders. The Illustrated Man: Rod Steiger plays the tattoo-covered title role in this fascinating vision of doom and danger based on the classic short story collection by futurist Ray Bradbury. Robert Drivas portrays a good-natured drifter who can't tear his eyes from Steiger's freakish illustrations. And Claire Bloom is the mysterious seductress who created the "art" that curses its bearer - and comes to life in a nightmarish trio of tales. Two spoiled children turn playtime into slay time (from The Veldt). Shipwrecked astronauts wander across a planet cursed by The Long Rain. And loving parents choose their children's fate when the end nears (from The Last Night of the World). Every one of The Illustrated Man's pictures tells a story. And every story ends in terror.
