Stamps Celebrate First Lord Of The Rings Film - Tehanu @ 18:11 PST
New Zealand Post will release its world exclusive stamp issue The Fellowship of The Ring on 4 December, celebrating the first movie in The Lord of The Rings trilogy.

According to New Zealand Post Design and Marketing Manager Linda Morgan, the six stamps and associated products depict characters and scenes from the movie and is the only stamp issue officially approved by director Peter Jackson.

"The stamps and other products capture beautifully presented moments from the film, which will appeal to stamp collectors and film enthusiasts alike," Linda Morgan said.

Wizards Gandalf the Grey and Saruman the White appear on the 40c stamp and the 80c stamp shows the elf Galadriel, the Lady of the Wood. Hobbits Frodo Baggins and Sam Gangee feature on the 90c stamp and the Guardian of Rivendell is depicted on the $1.30 stamp. Mysterious stranger Strider adorns the $1.50 stamp and Boromir of Gondor is calling for help to defend the hobbits on the $2.00 stamp.

From 4-11 December all mail going through Auckland, South Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch mail centres will be machine postmarked with a message from Middle-earth to get the full New Zealand Post 'Lord of the Rings' experience.

Customers can also have their mail hand postmarked with a special Lord of the Rings message by sending their stamped, self-addressed envelopes, enclosed in an outer envelope to 'New Zealand Home of Middle-earth, PO Box 39199, Wellington'.

"New Zealand is counting down the days until the movie is released on 19 December. We're sure that our stamp issue and other initiatives will add to the excitement and anticipation leading up to the premiere," Linda Morgan said.

The stamps and collectable products were designed by Sacha Lees, Weta Workshop, Wellington and printed by Southern Colour Print, Dunedin.

Products are available at all New Zealand Post retail outlets, including Books & More or from the New Zealand Post stamps web site's LOTR page

LOTR Playing Cards - Xoanon @ 18:53 PST
From: Faramir

My partner and I were in the Eckerd drug store last night and what do I find among a pile of Harry Potter stuff - a deck of LOTR playing cards. It was like I was meant to have them - it never would have occurred to me to look for LOTR items in the Eckerd, and I certainly wasn't in the market for playing cards.

Pure great luck - and my partner was kind enough to buy them for me (I guess as a Thanksgiving gift). I have attached some scans of them. "LOTR Playing cards 1" has 4 of the cards with some scenes I haven't seen before. "LOTR Playing Cards 2" has 2 more cards like that - plus the Wild Card, the back of the cards and the box. I would have sent them in individual scans, but then sending them would have taken all day on my 56K modem (I must find out how to hook up an Ethernet system between our two household computers so I can get a cable modem).

Hope these are something you are interested in posting - and if so, that the scans are good enough.
Since everyone seems to have a LOTR alias, I have decided to have one too. I have chosen the personality closest to my own. [Cards1] [Cards2]

Fan Tours to New Zealand - Tehanu @ 22:31 PST
Tours for movie fans!

Did Quickbeam’s reports from the sets make you envy his luck going to New Zealand? Ever wanted to go ‘where stars are strange’? Does the thought of a guided tour around the New Zealand film locations appeal to you? Well now there is a tour designed to make those dreams come true......

Yes, you can go to the film locations and stand right where Peter Jackson stood when he directed the trilogy. We’ve formed a tour company to take you there.

For as long as I’ve been reporting on the LOTR film trilogy it’s been a dream of mine that one day there would be tours for Tolkien fans that would take them to all the film locations. I’ve taken a few TORN visitors to New Zealand around the locations and seen them react to the experience with amazement and joy.

My dream started to take shape when I was contacted by Vic James of Boutique Holidays. Together we formed Red Carpet Tours and in partnership with the online booking company Etravelgate we developed a tour that will take people to the film locations.

Our tours use Tolkien fans to lead the tours. They’ll know the books and background to the films, and their knowledge and enthusiasm will help bring each part of the country to life. Breathtaking scenery becomes even more impressive when you can stand there and imagine whole scenes from the movies taking place around you. And it’s nice to be among a group of people who understand exactly what it means!

The sets are gone, but the land on its own is an unforgettable experience. We can take tour parties right onto the private land where key scenes were filmed, and we will also meet with a variety of people who were involved in making the film.

BK Gandalf Goblett - Xoanon @ 10:06 PST

From: Brian

I usually make my lunch at home but since I was gone for Thanksgiving I didnt have any lunch. So I decided to reward Burger King for being asscociated with Lord of the Rings. I got a value meal and asked for a goblet. She plunked down Arwen. I asked if I had a choice and she said they also had "the wizard". I'm no Arwen hater, but I'd much rather have Gandalf, a few minutes later I had it.

BK Toy Review - Xoanon @ 12:50 PST
From: indy1126

Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that the Burger King Toys are out there now. I found them in my local mall in Pennsylvania. The resturants have the goblets, which are of a surprising quality, and they are convienently dishwasher safe! The toys come in the kids meals, and there are 19 different figures, each with an action base, that have sound/light/other actions. All ninteen bases appear to join in a main base with The One Ring in the center, concievably to perform all of their little actions at once. While the likenesses are only as good as can be hoped for, the overall quality is rather good. In addition, the figures come with the order form for the special edition Uruk-Hai Action Figure, and a "Magic Message" code that unlocks something on burgerking.com. I haven't tried them yet.
