I just wanted to fill you in on some details. C.S. Lewis' The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe will be returning to the West End theater distict in London. It will run from December 6, 2001 - January 26, 2002. To be performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, it will be performed at the Sadler Wells Theater. Might be a nice thing for Tolkien fans to do while they're nervously waiting for the LOTR to come out. :)

Just wanted to let you know it seems like channel 4 in Sweden will have a report about LOTR fashion in the program Frivolt tomorrow (1/10) at 8.30 pm. First they viewed a few clips from the second trailer and then they showed some kind of fashion show and said the next program would be about "LOTR fashion". Clothes inspired by the movies perhaps? I have no idea actually, it sounded a bit strange to me too. Well, guess I'll find out tomorrow... :)

"Frodo Baggins can shred. While shooting the Lord of the Rings trilogy back-to-back-to-back, the men who play Tolkien's diminutive woodland creatures (from left, Dominic Monaghan, Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, and Billy Boyd) bought surfboards and took advantage of New Zealands' raddest natural resource. Studio Execs undoubtedly cringed while the stars of their $270 million project braved thundering waves and coral reefs; Viggo Mortenson suffered a black eye his first time out. But the actors swear their offscreen bonding made their onscreen chemistry work. "Surfing is when the Hobbits really became the Hobbits- its all about the camaraderie and bonding. It was massively keen." Wood says. "We called ourselves 'the Black Riders.' It kind of became official when we made up some t-shirts that said Lord of the Rings Surfing Club."

I'm a computer tech at in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (USA). Probably because Marquette is a Jesuit Catholic institiution we happen to have our own Tolkien collection here. Some of his original manuscripts, sketches, etc.
I've never seen it wtih my own eyes but I heard through the grapevine that the university is planning an exhibition of some sort due to the films coming out. If I hear anything more about it I'll let you guys know so you can tell others. Perhaps there will be a pilgrimage of mid-westerners to MU just to browse the Tolkien goodies!

LotR Hits Burger King Packaging
9/27/01, 3:39 pm EST - Strider
"I apologize if this is old news to you, but today when I received my Burger King lunch, the paper bag had a LOTR reference at the bottom! In fancy script it read 'Frodo Lives', and under that was typed: www.lotr.bk.com. The rest of the bag just has normal Burger King logos, nothing special. I've been trying to go to that site, but can't connect (I don't think it exists yet). Sorry, but I didn't feel like dredging the bag out of the garbage and scanning it for you!"
Toby's right...the address doesn't work yet. Any Ringers out there wanna bring their bag home from Lunch, scan the images, and send them in?

Liz Smith: 'I don't know my Asfaloth from my Elbow'
9/26/01, 7:43 pm EST - Xoanon
SORRY I got my friend Sir Ian McKellen's upcoming movie wrong. It's not the Harry Potter film he recently made, but J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring," which boasts Ian's masterful touch as the wizard. For the first time in production history three films were shot simultaneously. McKellen currently stars with Helen Mirren in "Dance of Death," opening Oct. 11 at the Broadhurst Theatre.

...Rhys-Davies, in contrast, had dismissed Tolkien's novel. "I tried to read it and fell asleep many times," he offers with a smile. "Every family has a fracture down it: One half loves it, lives in the world and it completely occupies their imagination. The other half says: 'I don't get it.' I was in that side until I was forced to sit down and read the damn thing in preparation for this." [More]

I was in a comic store on the weekend and found the Marvel figures of Lord of the Rings. I bought a few and it confirmed my theory about Arwen riding Frodo across the ford. The back of the box talks about Arwen taking 'the wounded Frodo' to Rivendell to be healed by Elven magic. Pretty sweet. The figures are top-notch too...they look just like the actors! It's amazing!
