Dwane, back from his exotic bird watching saffari in the far reaches of the Congo. Has come up with the latest rumor, (Thanks to Barry for the scoop)

As it turns out, a letter from Mr. Deluca confirmes that Peter Woodthorpe will NOT be in LOTR.

Ben Affleck 'Unsubstantial'

8/30/99, 1:07 pm EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

I placed a call to find out more about this 'Ben' thing. All I could get out of the office when I asked about his casting in LOTR is 'it's unsubstantial'.

Am I bursting casting bubbles today or what?

Nicholas Lea Rumor - False

8/30/99, 9:23 am EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

You may have heard rumors that Nicholas Lea will be in LOTR? Well it's complete shash, Lea will in fact be in 'The Veritcal Limit' another NZ based film. Lea will play Tom, Vertical Limit is rumored to be a rock climbing adventure, a la 'Cliffhanger'.

The Verticle Limit plot (thanks to Upcomingmovies.com): Premise: When a group of mountain climbers on K2, the second tallest mountain in the world, become trapped in a "vertical cave" (essentially a pit on the side of the mountain), the brother (O'Donnell) of one of the climbers (Tunney) comes out of retirement to lead the effort to save them.

There, can we get back to LOTR now?

Steve Buscemi UNTRUE

8/30/99, 9:12 am EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

The rumor about Steve Buscemi being the voice/model for Gollum is, as I said, completely untrue. A letter from Mr. Deluca confirmed it.

'Nope, he's some unknown Brit'

Don't want to say I told you so....

Sean Bean as Boromir?

8/30/99, 9:10 am EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

Harry over at AICN is reporting that Sean Bean (Sharpe, 006) is in considerations for the role of Boromir. This is quite a cool revelation, due to the fact that I wanted him as Aragorn!

New Note from Tehanu

8/29/99, 4:00 pm EST - Corvar

Tehanu supplied us with a new note recently, and we didn't mention it here. So I am drawing attention that you can read her thoughts on the source of fear in the Lord of the Rings, the Belgariad, and the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. After reading her note, I may just have to trek to the local library and check out a copy of Donaldson's work which warped me as a small child and give it a second chance.

You can read her comments here.

Interview with ToyVault

8/29/99, 1:08 pm EST - Xoanon

Recently I had the opportunity to talk with Jon Huston, creative director at ToyVault. Jon had some interesting things to say, including New Line's take on action figures and ToyVault's future plans. Personally I can't wait to take my Liv Tyler Arwen doll home and make her play house with Darth Maul...

Steve Buscemi as Gollum?

8/28/99, 12:00 pm EST - Xoanon

News has reached me via TheOneRing.com that WETA are using Steve Buscemi, an actor that has appeared in many movies, such as Armaggedon, Fargo, The Big Lebowski and Con Air, as a model for the emaciated Hobbit.

I have a few friends at Weta, (I DON'T work there myself), and as we were talking a bit about digital character animation, they told me that they were gearing up towards the building/animating of a fully digital main character. So I said 'yeah, nothing new, everybody knows you're doing Gollum for lotr'. Then he said 'ok, but did you know that we're using Steve Buschemi as a template?' (!!?)

I was more than a little surprised. But they insisted that they're using Buschemi not only for facial expressions but also for the lipsynch testphase.

I find this highly unlilkey to be true, the good folks at WETA (I have spoken with a few) are very nice, but they cannot give away info of that nature. It remains to be seen, but don't hold your breath.

Concept Art From ToyVault!

8/27/99, 4:12 pm EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

I recently had the chance to interview Jon Huston, Creative Designer for ToyVault (www.toyvault.com). During the interview I let slip that I love concept art and would he be able to send some my way, and did he ever big time!

The 4 images are as follows: Concept (control) art for Galadriel, some more detailed drawings, a painting, and the final figure!

apparently Galadriel will come with her mirror, and Jon shows us what we will see in her mirror!

I love this behind the scenes type stuff.

The interview with Jon will be online here.

3 Mystery Cast Memebers

8/27/99, 9:09 am EST - Xoanon

Xoanon here,

After donning my Sherlock Holmes silly hat, my bubble pipe, and telling Calisuri that his new name is 'Watson', I've decided to post this.

I am officially conducting an investigation to find out who these 'mystery' cast members are. Harry, local patron at 'Ain't It Cool News' has informed his customers that 3 mystery cast members are 'IN these movies' no news yet as to who they are. But I will find out! Furthermore I will then post the information AND! (in my best Sherlock Holmes impression) provide information on said thespians.

Come along Watson!
