By Glenn Gaslin
Wild Don Lewis Linguist Marcus Smith was inspired by the language of J.R.R Tolkien. Fewer than 100 people on Earth speak the language of the Chickasaw Indians, a tribe that now inhabits a swatch of Oklahoma. Their tongue is one of harsh consonants and low, long vowels, of words such as takolo lakna okchi. Of those fluent in Chickasaw, no one is younger than 55. Decades from now, nobody will speak it anymore. [More]

TheOneRing.net turns TWO years old today! It was May the 5th, 1999 when the hard work of Calisuri and Corvar changed the old green site (some of you remember) that belonged to Tehanu and I into what you see today!
Our first day 'live' had all of 22 unique visitors, so you can tell we started with a BANG! The first story we ever posted on TheOneRing.net was 'Sean Connery was here, maybe' in which we reported to you that Sean Connery MAY be connected with LOTR, well two years later and we STILL haven't heard what his role is :)
Take a look all week for some fun give-aways, where we will have YOU answer questions about US! Plus Tehanu promises to get drunk and dance on the bar in Barliman's!!!

Francesco Alo over at the Italian LOTR site Caltanet Cinema got a wonderful interview with Christopher Lee (Saruman) at the Verona Film Festival. Bear with the translation - the questions are good and Lee's answers give you a sense of just how much he loves the Rings. [More]When asked about accents, check out his answer: "No accents. I speak normally. There are British actors, Australian actors, New Zealand actors, American actors. And actresses of course. We all speak english without accents."
