Lesnie Award Joke: WAS A JOKE....IT'S ALL OK NOW

3/31/02, 7:58 pm EST - Xoanon

We love Andrew, and so should you

Wow, never thought I'd get so many feathers russled in less than 4 hours. Well it seems a few folks were less that happy at our little 'Andrew Lesnie Loses Oscar' joke, so we're taking that puppy down and giving everyone a big hug and saying 'it's all ok now'. Seriously though I do apologize for that faux pas, sometimes we don't realize just who reads us, including the folks we talk about.

Well, let's see what we can use to replace that one...

Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen form a rock band and begin tour!

Calling themselves 'Three Men Minus A Man' the band plans on touring all of south west New Jersey by the end of the summer! *cough*

Sorry Andrew/Mark/Jan/Fran/everyone, we love you, don't be upset!

Lord Of The Pins

3/30/02, 4:41 pm EST - Xoanon

When I first called Paul Badali of Badali Jewelry with the idea of making a pin for the Oscar nominees, I never thought in my wildest dreams we'd see them wearing the pins live on television.

During our Oscar party Randy Cook walked up to me and apologized for not wearing his pin, saying that he was extremely nervous for the Oscars and forgot about it on his hotel dresser. Jan Blenkin, Peter Jackson's personal assistant rushed up to me just before getting into her limo and begged me for a pin, I of course obliged (I hope you get yours soon Jan!). [More]

Richard Taylor back in NZ

3/29/02, 8:26 pm EST - Tehanu

"NZ TV showed Richard Taylor arriving back in Wellington today, he had a bag full of mini-Oscars (about half the size of the real statues) for everyone at WETA. He said it was great to be back and that Hollywood was a new experience for him. The real statues are destined for a cabinet in the one of the workshops at WETA. His partner Tania Rodgers did not attend the Oscars because she was expecting a child in a fortnight." Thanks to Will for that.

In One of Tolkien’s widely recognized essays "On fairy stories" he emphasized that the happy ending, the "eucatastrophe", is an essential element of Fantasy, necessary for it to fulfill its major functions: Recovery, Escape, Consolation. I guess I'm the first TheOneRing.net staffer to wake up from a night that was absolutely amazing. Not to gloat...but when Tolkien fans get together to party, they REALLY know how to party. Oh, and did I mention ALL 4 OF THE OSCARS were at the party? Full details to come.

We congratulate all of the winners, the cast and everyone involved with this wonderful film for their resounding success and accomplishment. In the next few days you will see hundreds of pictures, countless reports and as many video clips as our (soon to be retired) server can handle!

Thanks to all the TORn fans who made this party a success. Thank you for being part of our family!

Another big thank you goes to to the folks at Badali Jewelry who made "Good Luck from TheOneRing.net" broaches for the cast and crew. If you looked closely you could see our broaches on Peter Jackson and Jim Rygiel! [PJ's Pin] [ Jim's Pin!]

And finally, please support the people who made this party possible. Without the generous support of Sideshow/Weta, EA Games, Decipher and the Official Fan Club, Houghton Mifflin and Royal Selangor this party would simply not have happened.

So folks, get ready for the barrage of Oscar coverage this week. And PJ has personally assured us all we will be loving the new trailer this weekend!

Oscar News Round-Up

3/25/02, 1:05 am EST - leo

Well for those of you who didn't see the entire Oscar broadcast or followed our online coverage for the entire five hours or more here's a short summary. LOTR:FOTR picked up the Oscars for Make Up, Cinematography, Visual Effects and Score but unfortunally lost in the other, sometimes bigger, categories which adds up to a total of four Oscars out of thirteen nominations. A Beautiful Mind snatched away the Oscars in most of the important categories such as Best Director and Best Film. There were some surprises and some disappointments but I guess we have one advantage over the rest; we can try again next year! On Behalf of the TORn staff congrats to PJ and crew with the four Oscars and goodnight!
