Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is terrific. How do you like that? Three hours of adventure, acting, ebullience, wonderful special effects, a complete plot and story, dialogue, and memorable original music. I was starting to think I'd never see such a thing again. Lord of the Rings is so much better than Harry Potter that it's kind of frightening. [More]

Philip Hensher: Awful, humourless, naive - and a modern masterpiece

12/06/01, 10:37 am EST - Xoanon

At some point, the critics and literati have to admit that they were just wrong. There is so much to be said against The Lord Of The Rings that it shouldn't be worth the effort. A book that, judged by conventional standards, contains so many appalling lapses of taste and so much coarse vulgarity really ought, by now, to have faded from sight. [More]

Filmfreakcentral.com Reviews LOTR

12/06/01, 10:16 am EST - Xoanon

At the heart of Peter Jackson's brilliant The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring--the first of three cinematic adaptations of Tolkien's beloved fantasy is a favourable melancholy, a despair born of two things: the crucial feeling of desperation that infests a small band of heroes striving against an invincible evil. Screendaily Talks LOTR

12/05/01, 10:54 pm EST - Xoanon

Visually striking, thematically grave, and morally weighty, Peter Jackson's The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, is a miracle of a movie: a three-hour fantasy-action-adventure that not only faithfully captures the spirit of its respectable source material, the first in J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy of books, but also stands tall on its own merits as one of most ambitious movies to have come out of Hollywood in a long time. [More]

Now you will need to click the "Vote Now" button to go to where you can vote. Poll results will still be displayed on the front page. Those results are updated every 5 minutes.
