Howard Shore NZ LOTR Concert Review!

11/29/03, 12:02 pm EST - Xoanon

Matthew writes: Over the past couple of years, I have heard about various live concert performances of Howard Shore's music for the Lord Of The Rings films, and I've always been jealous of those who have been to those concerts. But I can now say that I have been to the best concert - short of a live performance of the complete score synchronised to the movie. The world premiere of the LOTR Symphony, six movements for orchestra and chorus, created from the twelve hours of music composed for the three LOTR films, performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO). While I understand some of the movements have been performed previously, this was the first performance of the complete piece. [More]

The Oscar Race: Ladies and Gents, Place Your Bets

11/29/03, 11:55 am EST - Xoanon

No fantasy film has ever won, nor has the third part of a trilogy. (Gosh. Not even “The Godfather: Part III”?) And only two films that grossed more than $300 million domestically (“Forrest Gump” and “Titanic”) have snagged the top prize. [More]

Embassy Theatre Seat Photo's

11/25/03, 3:13 pm EST - Xoanon

Irascian writes: I thought you’d appreciate these two pictures for those fans who’ve “purchased” seats through the Embassy Theatre Trust. I’ve also attached a copy of the Roll of honour which appears twice – wrapped around each of two columns in the upstairs entrance area. Verdict on the refurbishment: fantastic job making this a fantastic cinema – I wish my local was like this. The seats are the most comfortable I’ve sat in, the sound system is awesome and the screen, apparently specified by PJ himself, is huge and clear. [More]
