10/24/01, 8:33 am EST - Xoanon

From: Stefan

A friend of mine e-mailed the Swedish movie theatre association asking about the booking of tickets to the premiere and got the following answer; The tickets will probably be released around the end of November, these tickets are tickets for the release date December 19th and for the following couple of weeks. This means that you can't order the tickets, you have to pick them up directly at the movie theatre. The reason for this is that the movie still isn't ready and approved by the Swedish censorship. And according to Swedish law you can't buy tickets before that. When all details concerning the release of tickets are clear, this will be advertised in all major Swedish newspapers.

From: Mike

A friend of mine went to see 'Moulin Rouge' at a cinema here in Cape Town, South Africa last Saturday. We already new that the new (and old) Teaser Posters were up at all the cinemas here and that the films are definitely being released here on December 19th as well, but we didn't really know when the other forms of marketing were going to begin (besides articles in newspapers, which I'll get to later). Hall of Fire Chats for October 27th & 28th

10/23/01, 5:53 pm EST - Strider

Two years ago, casting rumours were rife as the production of the Lord of the Rings trilogy was in the head of Peter Jackson, and media awareness was almost nil. Week after week, a new name would be thrown into the hat for a new character...from the unknowns, to the Hollywood stars, to the extreme, to the awful. Two years later, and with an established cast of unknowns, respected actors and Hollywood stars, the casting for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy seems to have been perfect. [More]

Well the final votes are in, and after an insane amount of people voting (last time I checked ther as 91,000 votes) the winner is...Lord of the Rings beating Harry Potter 54% to 46%. Hopefully the Empire Magazine folk give some recgonition to this in their next issue! [More]

The Latest Word from Norway

10/23/01, 12:44 pm EST - Strider

Lars sends us some info from Norway:

Presale begins Monday, November 5th. Sunday night "Nova Kinosenter" will open the doors for the fans, that way they get them in from the cold outside. There will be sale of food, and there may also be some entertainment through the night. Me and some friends are planning to start the line Friday night. In Trondheim, LotR: FotR will have premier 1 minute over midnight, probably because of the world-premier... Wow, this is really going to be big, Trondheim Cinema says this might be the biggest opening of a film ever, and are saying that we shouldn't be surprised if we see Orcs, Ringwraiths and Wizards around soon...

Where Do You GET This Stuff?!

10/23/01, 11:39 am EST - Xoanon

I know not EVERYONE has read LOTR, I've run into hundreds of people like that, that's fine. But if you write for a magazine, or newspaper or website, and are doing a story on these films...could you AT LEAST manage to get the plot right!

From the brain trust known as: sfgate.com

"The Fellowship of the Ring" (Dec. 19): Not to be outdone by all things "Harry Potter," Peter Jackson ("Heavenly Creatures") unleashes the first loop in his already-filmed "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. What else is the J.K. Rowling series if not a less gothic and byzantine dilution of J.R.R. Tolkien's collection? This first installment focuses on Frodo (Elijah Wood), the Hobbit, who embarks on a quest to destroy the One Ring before the evil Gandalf (Ian McKellen) can get his hands on it.
