LOTR Athletes?

10/21/01, 10:05 pm EST - Xoanon

From: Cuthalion

I go to an all-girls private school in L.A. and on Friday Oct. 19 I saw a poster on the door to the gym. It caught my eye because it featured the new LOTR poster (with the Argonath pillars). The poster advertised that students could nominate people in their school to be "LOTR athletes of the fall," whatever that means. The poster also said that from this contest the school could win grants or the students could win trips. Pretty spiffy, and nice to see something LOTR related in school.

Teen Reading Week Makes an Impact

10/21/01, 5:45 pm EST - Tehanu

"From October 14-20 is supposedly 'Teen Reading Week.' Our High School suddenly popped up with all these posters, showing the theme of 'Make Reading a Hobbit' The posters had both Elijah Wood and Liv Tyler reading in their full get-ups. Fellow Ringers and myself all over our school went nuts, grabbing all the bookmarks and buttons we could get our hands on, though the 'Make it a Hobbit' theme is kinda cheesy. Our school will never be the same..." Thanks to ~§ Arabeth §~

English Release Date: December 19th

10/21/01, 5:39 pm EST - Tehanu

Maybe we can debunk that persistent 'Dec. 14' rumour, with help from Distant Angel: "Our local Warner Village has got the latest FOTR poster up and it has the release date as December 19th (which I think is the first time we've got the UK release date in black and white)."

FOTR Soundtrack Cover

10/21/01, 4:59 pm EST - Strider

German Lord of the Rings shop site Elbenwald seem to have gotten their hands on the cover of the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack, which will be available from November 20th. Instead of a collage, it just features a still from the movie of all four hobbits on Weathertop. [More]

Lord of Literature

10/21/01, 2:53 pm EST - Xoanon

JRR Tolkien's good-versus-evil theme still resonates, especially now in the face of conflict. It began, as many things do, in a bar. An Oxford pub, circa 1940, called the Eagle and Child, or the Bird and the Baby to the locals. At Tuesday luncheons, one table was occupied by an odd assortment of men--a couple of middle-aged dons, a writer or two or three--who smoked and drank and read to each other from scratched-out, scrawled-down pages. The Inklings they called themselves. [More]

10/21/01, 1:24 pm EST - Xoanon

Here is another article on the highly original concept of pitting two films against each other... there really must be a 'pooh-pooh disturber' department in every newspaper, magazine and tv outlet around the globe. Norwegian FotR Ticket Sales Open November 5

10/21/01, 12:59 pm EST - Tookish

You'll have to pull some fact from fiction in this letter from huufsa: I don't know if you have heard it yet, but in Oslo (cap. of Norway) the sales will start at 08.00 monday 5/11 at Norway's biggest cinema Colluseum. And strictly cash sale the first hours, 6 tickets for each. I'll absolutly be there. :)

The movie will have premiere exactly 00.01 the 19/1 (at Colluseum). And because of the timeline (or whatever it's called) that Norway is in it's said that Norway will be the place for the first public screening in the world. I'm not sure if this is right though. Yet I hope.

Sorry huffsa, but from recent news, I wouldn't get your hopes too high...

10/20/01, 12:47 pm EST - Xoanon

Critics get to see a 25-minute preview of December's much-anticipated "Lord of the Rings" movie. New Line Cinema showed clips from "The Fellowship of the Ring" -- the first part of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, which is scheduled to hit theaters Dec. 19 -- to critics this morning. Hall of Fire Chats for October 20th and 21st

10/20/01, 12:45 pm EST - Strider

Standing beside the tomb of Balin in the Chamber of Records, the Fellowship find themself in the heart of the Mines of Moria, a dread and horror in their hearts as they read the demise of Balin's company. Suddenly, doom boom boom goes a drum in the darkness, and the Fellowship make a hasty retreat through the flame filled lower levels of Moria. Just as it looks like they have escaped, suddenly a horrible spectre of fire and darkness emerges as the source of the flames themselves, and a stand off is made between Gandalf and the fearsome Balrog, one which neither wins. This weekend, the Hall of Fire Chapter by Chapter discussions reach arguably the most important chapter in the Fellowship of the Ring - Book II Chapter V: The Bridge of Khazad-dûm. [More]

Media Watch: Norway's TV2

10/19/01, 8:28 pm EST - Xoanon

From: flipm0de

About 15 minutes ago the largest norwegian broadcasting channel, TV2, had a short flick about LoTR, it was very cool. First there were clips from all trailers, then they interviewed a group of Tolkien fans sitting around a round table, with a Middle-Earthish atmosphere in the room, discussing various tolkien things. If I'm not mistaking this is the first time LoTR has seen the light from TV in Norway.

Canadian Trivia Quest

10/18/01, 8:23 am EST - Xoanon

From: Andre

I was just watching the Food Network Canada of all channels when an ad came on for a LOTR "Trivia Quest" which is supposedly being launched on November 10th.

The ad basically showed a few clips from the most recent trailer as well as some flashes of some of the prizes (the only one I can remember is what looked like a customized VW Bug). It seemed sort of like a teaser for the contest, not giving out any details except to say that it was being launched November 10th.
