PASADENA -- "Lord of the Rings' added to its place in pop-culture history Friday when the first fan convention for the Academy Award-winning films opened at the Pasadena Convention Center. Statues of the movie trilogy's scariest monsters greeted fans, or "ringers,' as they entered the One Ring Celebration.
