Glass Hammer Update

1/16/01, 9:34 pm EST - Xoanon

The Glass Hammer site has been updated with a story of my trip up to Sound Resources (the band's recording studio) a short while ago. Apparently Middle-Earth is a lot closer than we think; check the story out and see for yourselves. There's magic going on around this band, and a lot of it seems to be Tolkien-related.

Check it all out here.

Sydney News....

1/16/01, 9:31 pm EST - Xoanon

Browsing through today's (17JAN) Daily Telegraph in Sydney I spied an advertisement in the movie section of the paper. It is a quarter page ad for 'Little Nicky' and 'Bring It On', with the huge heading 'The greatest event in movie history starts this week and lasts 1 minute 44 seconds'. Then a spiel about the LotR trailer commencing tomorrow with those movies.

Talking about the bottom line.....

1/15/01, 9:25 pm EST - Tehanu

Money, money, money. Films drink it up like a sponge. So how will the LOTR films do? Earendel sent in this news:

"Do you guys know about the Hollywood Stock Exchange? (www.hsx.com)? The reaction of the traders there (I'm not one) to the teaser seems to be positive. FoTR has hit an all time high of 127.34. Which, if you are unfamiliar with the way HSX works, means that the "market" is betting the movie will gross $US127.34 million in its first four weeks."

Trailer news from England.

1/15/01, 5:41 pm EST - Tehanu

We got this news from Judesolo:

"It's showing in UCI cinemas, I think, specifically the Metro Centre because I saw it there yesterday. People shouldn't panic though, because I nearly had a cardiac, but they're showing it after three other trailers and the Orange advert which is usually when the film starts. They're doing it this way so they can draw back the curtains for full effect, so don't storm out in a rage after the three normal trailers like one dude did in our cinema. Oh and Lost Souls is a terrible, terrible film."

Access Middle-earth

1/13/01, 2:06 am EST - Xoanon

The Access Hollywood TV show reported on the LOTR Line-up action going on in LA. Nothing newsworthy, but they did show some TORNadoes in line, and a clip from the internet trailer. They also mentioned that the new official site has gathered some 10.4 million hits in 10 hours, hrmm don't know about that...

And in Virginia...

1/13/01, 2:02 am EST - Xoanon

From: Powerman

My girlfriend and I drove two hours to Abingdon, Virginia to see "13 Days" at the Abingdon Cinemall (which a few years ago was rated by starwars.com as the 3'rd best place in the U.S. to watch The Phantom Menace). Much to our dismay, they didn't show the LOTR trailer. After the movie I complained to the manager and she explained their policy of cutting off trailers for movies that weren't coming out within the next 60 days, but she felt sorry for us and we got a special showing in a theater all to ourselves...they even showed it twice for us!

Uh Oh...Trailer online?

1/13/01, 1:58 am EST - Calisuri

Well, I guess this was expected... some major LOTR fans took a video camera into theaters today. This version is quite poor, but at least it's a look, and still it will probably beat the Real Media version that's coming out next Friday. So thanks to Ringer fan FatMan for this clip! [More]

Sad day in Tennessee!

1/12/01, 8:24 pm EST - Tookish

Came home to this email from a disappointed Ringer:

Just a quck note to say that I went to see Thirteen Days in Memphis, TN, at a Malco Theatre in one of our newest and biggest malls. There was NO Lord of the Rings trailer. I talked to the projectionist after the movie and he said they never got the trailer. Seems that New Line needs to do better if they don't won't bad p.r.

Maybe in a few days Dave! Keep us posted and thanks for the note.

UK Trailer Status and some other stuff

1/12/01, 8:15 pm EST - Calisuri

Just got this from a Ringer fan in the UK:

"Trailer is showing in all Showcase Cinema sites in UK, I know because I work in the Projection Booth at one of the sites (Yes I get to watch it several times a day ). Albeight some prints arrived late due to the trailer having to be put on the front of the Lost Soul's feature."

We are also getting reports from across the US that matinee showings of '13 days' did not have the LOTR Trailer. If that is the case, ask for your money back!

Trailer Release Updates - UPDATE

1/12/01, 3:25 pm EST - Calisuri

1. UPDATE Looks like the UK does have the trailer in front of 'Lost Souls' in at least some areas and maybe only at UGC theater chains. Matt just reported in that the trailer is NOT showing in Warner Cinemas in London. (Warner Village West End on Leicester Square) Robert , however, HAS seen the trailer at the UGC Cinema in Sheffield.

2. If you are from Finland, check out the trailer in front of 'Red Planet' on Jan 19th!

3. UPDATE The correct info for the trailer in Norway is Jan 12th - 18th in front of 'Sleepwalkers', and Jan 19th-25th in front of 'Vertical Limit'. Thanks to Øystein for the tip and clarification!

No Trailer in Ireland?

1/12/01, 11:28 am EST - Xoanon

Ringer Spy Martin sends in sad word from Ireland.

Really bad news from Ireland. The trailer will not be on Castaway or any film here.

Here's a snippet from a mail I recieved from another Irish ringer who did all the legwork on this one.

This is the authoritative word on the Trailer. It will NOT be shown in Ireland. I rang Abbey films in Dublin who distribute New line films in Ireland and a very helpful man there explained to me that the Irish Film censors board will not certificate a trailer until they have seen the film.

Since this won't be possible until mid November at the earliest there is no chance of the trailer being shown.

Thanks to Ringer fan James for sending this in from today's Toronto Star:

"In this hurry-up world of 2001, you no longer get your full 15 minutes of fame.

The NEW official site is up, and its quite an improvement! It is visually appealing to the max! Gottta love it. :)

Now that it is up, what new material can we find? Well, after my initial run through, I found some pretty cool stuff in 'The Film' 'Production' pages. You will find a bunch of new images attached to a small description for each aspect of the production. My new personal favorite picture is under 'Miniatures.'

Also, see all of the cast IN COSTUME in "The Film' ' Cast' section. We get a first look at Celeborn, Theoden, Grima, Eowyn and more!

And it's chock-full of stuff to go and see! This is the kind of thing we've waited so long to see! Go and enjoy it here

UPDATE

Now I've had time to look around at the updated site. Like the first version, it's very beautiful, rather confusing and demands that you install a lot of plug-ins and software. The bewildering layout means that you're continally being surprised by new treasures! Be a die-hard Tolkien fan and persevere with the downloads, it pays off!

My personal fave: If you find your way into the FILM section titled 'Filmmakers' you'll find the long-awaited 'Peter Jackson Answers the Fans' Questions' as a series of Realplay videos....just click under PJ's picture.
