LotR Gaming Music Samples
Luthien @ 1:29 pm EST
HavensSpy CT writes the following: "Just wanted to point you to a couple of cool LOTR game related links on the web. This Thursday, Oct. 9, the New York Times published an article discussing the evolving art form and technical marvel of game music, specifically highlighting the original thematic cycle of music created for Vivendi-Universal's Lord of the Rings games. VU's games include War of the Ring, The Hobbit and Middle-earth Online. I think it is noteworthy that the premier mainstream news publication in the nation ("It ain't news 'till it's in the New York Times...") has chosen to develop this story and print this article, and that the Lord of the Rings game themes are the centerpiece of the story." LotR Gaming is hitting the big time! Check out the fabulous NY Times article here (you have to have a free online login at NYtimes.com to read the article). CT also included links to samples of this incredible music from VU's LotR games and War of the Ring. Fabulous music will only make the gameplaying experience richer. We can't wait!

The Hobbit Demo
Luthien @ 10:32 pm EST
Cynical Mike writes in to say that a new playable demo for The Hobbit is now available--or actually, a trilogy of demos showing off Sierra's upcoming game based on The Hobbit (thank you, Cynical Mike!). Sierra has released two internet demos on its official site, which you can visit here, however, a third demo was released as part of a local McDonald's fast-food promotion, and several mirror sites have bundled all three demos together. Some mirrors are even carrying a 160 MB version, which is reduced by some 30 MB thanks to the removal of a DirectX 9 installation. Mirrors can be found on 3D Gamers, Boomtown (registration required), FileFront, Gamer's Hell, Loadedinc (registration required), and Worthplaying. Go forth and download!
